LADY REDDIES TO PLAY IN GAC SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Kasey Carlock pitched only her second complete-game shutout of the season as Henderson State beat East Central Oklahoma 2-0, to advance to the Great American Conference Softball Tournament Championship, Sunday in Bentonville, Ark.

Henderson State, 23-31 on the season, entered the tournament as the sixth-seed, while East Central (42-13) was the number two seed in this year's event.

The Lady Reddies began the tournament having never defeating East Central in 10 prior meetings. Henderson, however, gave the Lady Tigers both their losses in the tournament. 

Henderson State struck first as Laura Mabary led off the first- inning with a single to left field.
With two-outs, Amber Wilburn hit a fly ball that landed just inside the line for a double to score Mabary and give HSU a 1-0 lead.

In the Henderson State fifth-inning, Katie Hulan led off the inning with a line shot to left-centerfield to get things started. Shelbie Palmore then moved Hulan to second with a sacrifice bunt for the first out of the inning.

Mabary hit a long fly ball to right field for the second out, but Hulan was able to advance on the play. Amy Halter then slapped a single to right field to score Hulan to give HSU a 2-0 advantage.

Meanwhile, Henderson got some solid defensive play form Morgan South and Shelbie Palmore to help keep East Central off the board.

The Lady Reddies totaled six hits in the game with Wilburn leading the way going 3-for-3 with a double.  

Carlock put together a masterful performance in the circle scattering five hits and striking out two batters. The senior from Aubrey, Texas improved to 7-12 on the year.

Henderson State will have to beat No. 3 ranked Southeastern Oklahoma twice to claim the GAC Tournament Championship.
