In its first conference game of the season, the Henderson State women's basketball team fell 88-72 against Southeastern Oklahoma on Thursday evening at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia.

At the 9:29 mark in the first half, the Reddies trailed by just two before Southeastern rattled off a 16-3 run, taking a 36-21 lead at the 3:51 mark on an Emily Williams layup.

Aungelique Sledge dialed in from long range to pull the Reddies within 11 on HSU's last possession of the half, as the Reddies trailed 45-34.

Henderson State shot just 37.9 percent from the field in the first half, making 11-of-29 attempts and 6-of-18 from the 3-point line.

The Reddies would get no closer in the second half, as the Savage Storm heated up from 3-point range, extending the lead to 74-46 with 12 minutes remaining.

Henderson edged out Southeastern Oklahoma in the rebounding category 41 to 36, as Makyndra Simmons pulled down a team-high nine boards.

Haleigh Henson led the Reddies in scoring with 16 points, shooting 6-of-17 from the field.

Ariana Marks made 3-of-4 shots from beyond-the-arc and scored 14 points.

Also scoring in double digits for Henderson State was Victoria Stewart with 12 points.

For the Savage Storm, Williams scored a career high 40 points, making 3-of-4 attempts from 3-point range and sinking a perfect 13-of-13 free throws.

HSU shot just 34 percent from the field making 22-of-64 attempts, while SOSU made over half of its shots(29-56) for 52 percent.

Henderson State falls to 1-2 on the season and 0-1 in GAC play.

The Reddies will next take on East Central in a Great American Conference matchup Saturday afternoon, with tipoff set for 1 p.m.
