REDDIES LOSE TO NO. 2 EMPORIA STATE 93-53

A 20-4 run to end the first-half propelled No. 2 nationally ranked Emporia State past Henderson State 93-53 in women's basketball on Tuesday in Emporia, Kan.

A young Henderson State team hung tough with a veteran Emporia State team for most of the first-half as the Reddies trailed 32-26 following a pair of free throws by Deidra McCoy with 4:45 left in the opening 20 minutes.

Emporia State, 4-0 on the year, then scored 13 straight points while Henderson made just one field goal the remainder of the half. The Hornets pushed their lead to 52-30 at the break.

Henderson State, 1-4 on the year, never recovered as the Reddies were successful on just 8-of-30 attempts in the second half.

Aungelique Sledge led the way for the Reddies with 15 points, and also pulled down five rebounds.

Bree Bossier followed Sledge with 11 points and had a team best seven rebounds.

Four Hornet players scored in double digits, as Amber Vandiver led the attack with 24 points.

Henderson State shot 28 percent from the field making 18-of-64 shots, while Emporia State sunk 36-of-75 attempts from the field for 48 percent shooting.

Emporia dominated the inside game scoring 60 points in the paint, while the Hornet defense forced 20 Reddie turnovers which led to 30 points for the home team.

The Reddies return home Friday to play host to Texas A&M-Kingsville with the opening tip set for 2 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center.
