Box Score After falling behind early in the first half and trailing 35-12 at intermission, the Henderson State women's basketball team scored three times as many points in the second, but their comeback attempt fell short, as 10th ranked Pittsburg State ran on to a 77-50 victory Monday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Despite making 12 of their 14 attempts from the foul line, the Reddies (2-5) shot just 17-of-60 from the field for a 28 percent shooting average, while the Gorillas made 28-of-60 attempts, shooting just under 50 percent.
The Reddies continued to fight hard as the second half progressed, and scored 13 points off of 15 Gorilla turnovers, but were outscored 40-to-20 in the paint.
Pittburg State's Lizzy Jeronimus led the way with 23 points on 9-of-12 attempts and a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line.
After being held in check to just four first half points,
Aungelique Sledge poured in 20 in the second half for a total of 24 points on 9-of-21 attempts from the field.
Sledge was also 6-for-6 from the free-throw line, while also pulling down five boards.
Annie Thomas provided a spark for the Reddies, scoring eight quick second half points and grabbing two steals.
Dulincia Keener had six rebounds to lead the Reddies, while
Makyndra Simmons and
Bree Bossier each had five.
Henderson State will look to rebound and win its first conference game on Thursday, as the Reddies take on Arkansas Monticello, with tipoff slated for 5:30 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center.
