HENDERSON STATE FALLS ON THE ROAD TO UAFS 93-68

Box Score The Henderson State women's basketball team fell to non-conference opponent Arkansas-Fort Smith 93-68 Saturday afternoon in Fort Smith.

Henderson State finished the game shooting 22 percent from the field, making 15-of-67 shots, while UAFS shot 57 percent going 40-of-70 from the field.

In her first action of the season, Jasmine Settles scored the first four points of the game for the Reddies, nailing a trifecta and HSU's first field goal at the 19:20 mark.  After that make, the Reddies struggled from the field over the next 12 minutes, missing their next 17 attempts.

UAFS went on a 6-0 run at the 13:33 mark on two Jasmine Brainard free-throws followed by back-to-back Angi Ramey layups, as the Lady Lions extended their lead out to 16-7.

The Lady Lions continued to build onto their lead, as HSU trailed 29-12 with 8:18 remaining in the first half.

Settles connected on the Reddies' second field goal of the game, nailing a 3-pointer with 6:11 remaining and pulling HSU within 18.

After shooting just 3-for-28 from the field in the first half for 11 percent, Henderson State fell behind 51-28 at the break.  The Reddies shot 77 percent from the free throw line in the opening period, making 20-of-26.

Settles opened the second half with a three from the left corner, and Aungelique Sledge followed suit on Henderson State's next possession, as the Reddies narrowed the Lady Lion lead to 55-36.

The Lady Lions maintained a 20-to-25 point cushion for the remainder of the game, however, and led by as much as 27 with 45 seconds to play.

After scoring just two first half points, Sledge did the bulk of the scoring in the 2nd half for the Reddies, finishing the game with 23 points on 7-of-18 attempts from the field, including 3-of-8 from beyond-the-arc. She also led the Reddies with 8 rebounds.

Settles finished with 15 points, making four 3-point attempts, while Dulincia Keener pitched in 14 points and pulled down 8 boards.

The Reddies made 31-of-41 attempts from the charity stripe, shooting 76 percent.

Angi Ramey led UAFS in scoring with 22 points and pulled down 18 rebounds, while Jasmine Brainard contributed 20 points.

HSU will break for the holidays, and return to action on Jan. 3 for a Great American Conference matchup at Southern Arkansas, with tipoff set for 2 p.m in Magnolia.
