Lady Reddie Tennis Blanks LSU-Shreveport

Henderson State turned in a 9-0 shutout of LSU-Shreveport, Sunday in women's tennis action in Shreveport, La.

The Lady Reddies then made a 60-mile trip to Ruston later on Sunday where they lost a hard-fought battle with NCAA Division I Grambling by a score of 4-3.

Against LSUS, the Lady Reddies took a 3-0 lead by claiming all three doubles matches.

At No. 1 doubles, Hannah Watson and Sara Griffin defeated Jaynie Stewart and Heather McCutcheon, 8-0.

Sarah Camras and Brittany Harness cruised past Karie Pourciau and Harrah Ingerson at No. 2 doubles, 8-2, while Maddie McJunkins and Tyler Reaves beat Kelsey Ellender and Hannah Hough at No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-1.

In singles action, HSU had little trouble in sweeping all six matches.
It began at No. 1 singles as Griffin beat Stewart 6-0, 6-1, with Watson topping Pourciau 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

Camras then blanked Ingerson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, while Harness shutout Sweatt at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0.

Reaves also recorded a shutout over Ellender 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles with McJunkins downing Hough at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Against Grambling, Henderson State won the doubles point by wining matches a No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. NCAA Division I rules applied and doubles play is only worth one point.

Watson and Griffin beat Tee Kassim and Tabitha Nankya, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles, while Camras and Harness claimed a victory over Joy Jones and Tafadzwa Chiridza, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles.

The Lady Reddies claimed victories at No. 1 and No. 3 singles as Griffin beat Kassim 6-0, 7-5, while Camras downed Chiridza 6-4, 6-1.

The match came down to No. 2 singles where Watson battled Jones in a very intense match.

Watson won the first set 6-3 before Jones rebounded to win the second set to force a tie-breaker. Playing her fourth match of the day, Watson came up short putting together a valiant effort in 10-8 loss in the final set.

The Lady Reddies will travel to Searcy, Ark. on Tuesday to face Harding at 2 p.m.
