HSU WOMEN FALL 67-61 IN GAC MATHCUP AT NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE

After leading building a 10-point halftime lead, the Henderson State women's basketball team fell 67-61 at Northwestern Oklahoma State in a Great American Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.

Henderson State (4-10, 2-5 GAC) got off to a hot start, taking the early 6-4 lead as Jasmine Settles and Haleigh Henson both knocked down a set of trifectas.

The Reddies made six out of their first eight attempts from beyond-the-arc, taking a 20-16 lead on a Victoria Stewart 3-pointer at the 11:05 mark.

HSU used hot perimeter shooting to build a ten point lead at half, as Henson led the balanced attack with 9 first half points knocking down three trifectas.

NWOSU (4-9, 3-5 GAC) used a 12-0 run at the beginning of the second half to tie the game with just under 13 minutes remaining, as HSU began the half shooting just 1-of-7 from the field.

The Lady Rangers took a 40-39 lead at the 12:25 mark on a Kamera Bozeman layup, and never trailed for the remainder of the game.

The Reddies would pull within two with just over four minutes remaining, as Jasmine Settles cut the lead to 55-53, but NWOSU pushed the lead back out to four points on a pair of Jonna Gregory free throws on its next possession.

Henderson State could not get enough stops down the stretch and committed 26 turnovers while Northwestern Oklahoma committed just 13.

The Reddies shot 21-of-48 from the field for a 44 percent shooting average (7-of-21 in the second half), while the Lady Rangers made 25-of-49 shots for 51 percent.

Aungelique Sledge led in scoring for HSU with 13 points on 5-of-13 attempts, while also pulling down 8 rebounds.

Dulincia Keener was the only other Reddie to score in double figures with 10 points on 4-of-8 from the field, while Vanessa Pieper and Henson each had 9 points.

Henderson State will return home for its next game, taking on Southwestern Oklahoma State in another GAC contest on Thursday, with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m.
