Box Score Henderson State used a stellar shooting performance and tenacious defense to upset No. 16 Harding 91-85, in women's basketball Thursday at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.
The Reddies, 7-11 overall and 5-7 in the Great American Conference, handed the Bisons their first conference loss of the season while snapping a 12-game Harding win streak.
The Henderson State win is the first over a nationally ranked team since 2007.
A balanced scoring attack helped lead the Reddies to the victory as six players scored in double-figures including all five starters.
Dulincia Keener led Henderson with 20 points and 12 rebounds, with
Victoria Stewart also recording a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards. Stewart was also 4-for-5 from 3-point range.
Jasmine Settles and
Aungelique Sledge scored 16 points each, with Sledge also having seven rebounds.
Haleigh Henson was 4-for-9 from long range and ended with 12 points while
Vanessa Pieper came off the bench to score 11 points.
Henderson State held a 46-45 halftime lead as the Reddies shot 50 percent from the floor while forcing 12 Harding turnovers which led to 16 points.
Harding, 15-3 overall and 11-1 in league play, used long distance shooting to keep the game tight in the first half as the Bisons were 8-of-15 from beyond the arc.
Henderson State surged to a 19-point lead in the second-half as Harding struggled offensively hitting just 1-of-10 3-point field goals before sink 3-of-4 down the stretch to make the game close.
The Reddies hit 32-of-62 shots from the field for 52 percent including 11-of-26 from beyond the arc for 42 percent.
Harding shot a respectable 42 percent from the field on 29-of-69 shooting. The Bisons were led by Lundon Williams' 19 points, while Sydney Layrock scored 18.
The Reddies will travel to Monticello, Ark. on Saturday to take on Arkansas-Monticello with tipoff set for 2 p.m.
