Box Score In a low-scoring and defensive battle throughout, the Henderson State women's basketball team fell 43-42 at Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday afternoon in Monticello, Ark.
After coming down to the last shot, the game ended with UAM's Jordan Goforth knocking down a jumper in the lane with two seconds remaining.
The Cotton Blossoms stormed out to a 6-0 lead, but Henderson State responded with an 8-0 run of their own immediately after, as 
Haleigh Henson and 
Jasmine Settles knocked down a pair of threes.
Henderson State would cool off as Arkansas-Monticello used a 9-0 run starting at the 5:56 mark of the first half to push the lead out to nine, and eventually would carry a 28-19 lead over the Reddies into the break.
HSU, 7-12 overall and 5-8 in the GAC, shot just 33 percent from the field in the first half, going 8-of-24 from the field.
The Reddies also committed 11 turnovers in the opening period to just five for the Cotton Blossoms (10-8 and 8-5).
Henson and 
Dulincia Keener each scored six points apiece in the first half to lead the way for HSU.
Henderson State started the second half on a 7-1 run, as Henson knocked in a three from the right wing at the 14:18 mark, narrowing the UAM lead to 29-26.
A 
Victoria Stewart layup at the 5:50 mark tied the game at 33, and the Reddies took their first lead of the second half on an 
Aungelique Sledge steal and layup with 5:10 remaining.
The teams traded buckets over the next four minutes, as the score would be knotted at 40 with a minute remaining.
After coming away with a steal on the defensive end, UAM's Jordan Goforth was fouled, and made 1-of-2 free throw attempts with 32 seconds remaining to give the Cotton Blossoms a one point lead.
Henderson State responded, however, as Keener would head to the line with 15 seconds remaining after being fouled by UAM's Tori Nichols, and calmly knocked down both free throws to regain a 42-41 lead for the Reddies.
Arkansas-Monticello would answer right back with Goforth sinking the eventual game-winner, and the Reddies could not get a clean look as time expired.
Keener led the way for Henderson State with 12 points on 4-of-11 field goal attempts, and also had eight rebounds.
Settles and Henson also had 11 points apiece to round out the double-digit scorers for HSU.
Goforth was the lone double-figure scorer for Arkansas-Monticello with 24 points on 8-of-17 field goal attempts.
HSU ended the game shooting 32 percent from the field on 15-of-46 attempts, while UAM made 14-of-58 attempts for 24 percent.
Both teams ripped down 41 boards each, but the story of the game was HSU's 21 turnovers to just 13 for UAM.
The Reddies will return to action on Thursday, as the team travels to Ada, Okla. to take on East Central in a Great American Conference matchup. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
