Henderson State opened its fall women's tennis season with a 9-0 win over Texas A&M-Texarkana, Wednesday in Texarkana, Texas.
 
The match began with doubles play as Annie Shannon and Amanda Korinihona teamed to defeat Daejia Lynch and Natalie Kaylon 8-2 at No. 1 doubles to put Henderson's first point on the board.
 
The other two matches went down to the wire a Henderson's Sara Griffin and Mariah Bartlett got past Sarah Williams and Anji Foster 9-7 at No. 2 doubles.
 
In the final doubles match at No. 3, Maddie McJunkins and Alisha Davis were forced to play a tiebreaker against Kay Douglas and Whitley Langford. The Henderson duo won the match 9-8 by claiming the tiebreaker 7-3.
 
The Reddies had little trouble in singles play sweeping every set.
 
Shannon won at No. 1 singles, defeating Lynch, 6-1, 6-2, while Korinihona defeated Williams at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-0.
 
Sara Griffin shutout her opponent at No. 3 singles recording a 6-0, 6-0 win over Bailey Cates.
 
Freshmen Mariah Bartlett and Alisha Davis picked up their first collegiate wins with
Bartlett beating Ashleigh Finley at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-2, and Davis cruising past Diane Wren at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
 
HSU veteran Maddie McJunkins easily won her match at No. 5 singles recording a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Haley Lofton.
 
Henderson State will play two matches on Thursday beginning with a 9 a.m. meeting with New Mexico Military Institute and a 3 p.m. match against Collin County in Plano, Texas.
