Box Score A strong first half shooting performance boosted the Henderson State women's basketball team to a Great American Conference victory over Southern Nazarene on Thursday evening at the Duke Wells Center.
Leading 46-19 at the break, the Reddies made 16-of-35 first half attempts from the field for 46 percent shooting, including 6-of-17 from beyond the 3-point arc.
The Crimson Storm attempt to mount a second half comeback, pounding the ball inside to Aminata Fall on almost every possession, but the shooting from Sledge and Henson proved too much for SNU.
Fall led the way for the Crimson Storm with 43 points and attempted half of SNU's shots, making 16-of-34 attempts, while also pulling down 14 rebounds.
Haleigh Henson led the onslaught from three for the Reddies, as she knocked down 6-of-12 in the game, tying her career high.
Aungelique Sledge led in scoring for Henderson State, pouring in 29 points on 12-of-24 attempts from the field, while also pulling down 13 boards for a double-double.
Henson pitched in with 21 points on 6-of-15 shooting, and
Vanessa Pieper contributed 10 points.
Henderson State dished out 11 assists as a team, as
Victoria Stewart and Henson each had 3.
The Reddies finished the game making 27-of-74 attempts from the field for a 37 percent shooting average. From three, HSU was 11-of-31 for 36 percent.
SNU made 25-of-67 attempts for 37 percent from the field as well, and outrebounded Henderson State 50-48.
HSU scored 26 points off 15 SNU turnovers, while committing just 11.
The Reddies return to action on Saturday afternoon as they play host to Northwestern Oklahoma, with tipoff set for 1 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center.
