Box Score A strong first half showing pushed the Henderson State women's basketball team past Northwestern Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon at the Duke Wells Center, as HSU cruised to an 87-59 Great American Conference victory.
Leading 48-19 at halftime, the game was never in doubt as
Aungelique Sledge posted a 13 point, nine rebound first half performance, along with 10 points from
Jasmine Settles.
The Reddies (9-14, 7-10 GAC) shot 53 percent from the field in the first half, making 18-of-34 attempts, while limiting NWOSU(9-14, 8-9 GAC) to 18 percent shooting on 5-of-28 attempts.
Five Reddies scored in double-figures, as HSU held a balanced attack throughout the contest.
Haleigh Henson knocked down three first half three-pointers to give Henderson State the early momentum, and finished the day with 14 points.
Sledge led all HSU scorers with 27 points going 12-of-21 from the field, and also ripped down 14 boards for a double-double.
The senior from West Helena, Ark. stuffed the stat sheet, as she also stole the ball four times and dished out three assists.
Also recording a double-double for the fourth time in the last nine games was
Dulincia Keener, as she had 15 points and hauled in 11 boards.
Rounding out the double-digit scoring for HSU were Settles with 13 and
Makyndra Simmons with 10. Simmons also pulled down seven rebounds.
As a team, the Reddies out-rebounded the Lady Rangers 51-31, and had 14 assists, as Henson also added four helpers. HSU also scored 21 second chance points while limiting NWOSU to just 5.
HSU finished the game making 31-of-63 shots including 8-of-26 three-pointers for a 49 percent shooting average. The Reddies limited NWOSU to 35 percent on 23-of-65 attempts.
Leading the way for NWOSU were Jonae Isaac with 17 points and Kamera Bozeman with 10 points and six boards.
Henderson State has a week off before its next game, as the Reddies travel to Weatherford, Okla. to take on Southwestern Oklahoma.
