Box Score In the highest scoring game in Great American Conference women's basketball history, Henderson State fell to Southwestern Oklahoma 116-108, Saturday in Weatherford, Okla.
It was a game that featured six Reddies to score in double-figures including 21 points by
Dulincia Keener and
Jasmine Settles.
Vanessa Pieper came off the bench to score 15 points,
Victoria Stewart added 13 points,
Aungelique Sledge 12 and
Haleigh Henson 10.
Annie Thomas was just short of double-figures having 9 points, while
Makyndra Simmons ended the game with 7.
Southwestern Oklahoma, 10-14 overall and 7-11 in the GAC, led by as many as nine points in the first-half before Settles, Henson and Pieper sparked the Reddies with 3-point field goals late in the half.
Pieper would give HSU a 49-45 lead with 2:49 remaining in the first 20 minutes with a 3-point field goal and a layup.
A long range jumper and layup by Morgan Vogt followed by a layup by Chelsea Bates gave SWOSU a 3-point advantage before Pieper ended the half with a bucket to cut the Henderson deficit to 52-51 at the break.
In the second half, Henderson State would build an eight point lead following a 3-point field goal by Henson and an easy bucket by Sledge to put the Reddies on top 76-68 with 13:45 remaining.
SWOSU would then go on an 8-0 run to tie the score before Keener ended the run with a jumper in the lane to put Henderson back on top 78-76 midway through the half.
Henderson State, 9-15 and 7-11, would take a 94-88 lead at the 5:13 mark as the Reddies would go on an 8-0 run of their own started by a Stewart 3-pointer, followed by a layup by Henson and three free throws from Keener.
The Bulldogs would then outscore the Reddies 14-0 over the next two-and-half minutes to regain the lead at 102-94.
The Reddies fought back by cutting the deficit to three to trail 103-100 at the 2:08 mark, but the Bulldogs held off Henderson's charge making 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch.
Henderson State hit on 43-of-83 shots from the field for 51.8 percent including 11-of-26 from 3-point range for 42.3 percent.
SWOSU shot 54.9 percent from the field converting on 39-of-71 field goals, while sinking 8-of-14 trifectas.
The big difference came at the foul line as Henderson State toed the line 18 times making 11, while the Bulldogs hit 30-of-35 shots from the charity stripe.
Henderson State will next take on Ouachita Baptist on Thursday at Vining Arena with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m.
