Box Score 2 Keirsten Seahorn's grand slam in the seventh-inning lifted Henderson State to a double-header sweep of Southern Nazarene, Friday in Bethany, Okla.
Henderson State, 23-7 overall and 14-4 of the Great American Conference, won the opener 13-10 before winning game two 4-3. The Reddies have won 12 of their last 13 games and are in first-place in the GAC standings.
After scoring 13 runs in the opener, the Reddies struggled to score runs in game two leaving 10 runners on base.
Trailing 3-0 going into the top of the seventh,
Tricia Hock hit a one-out single to get the inning started for the Reddies.
Amy Halter kept the inning going with a single with
Sarah Gipson reaching on a walk to load the bases.
Seahorn would then take a Kayla Wyatt pitch over the left field fence to put the Reddies on top 4-3. It was Seahorn's fourth home run of the year.
Ali Hargis would pitch the final two innings in relief of
Ashlyn White to pick up the win and improve to 4-0 on the year.
In game one, the Reddies scored in each of the first six innings including five runs in fifth-inning to open the series with a win.
Henderson State built a 7-3 lead with Gipson having a solo home run in the first and
Morgan South supplying a two-run blast in the second-inning.
The Reddies manufactured two runs in the third and two more in the fourth on a Seahorn two-run single.
Southern Nazarene rallied to take the lead in the fourth-inning scoring five runs to take an 8-7 advantage.
The Reddies would then put together six hits in the fifth-inning, scoring five runs take a 12-8 lead.
White started things with a double to left-center field, followed by three straight singles by
Destiny Garza,
Caroline Cullins, and Hock.
Amy Halter would plate a run with a double down the left field line, with Gipson driving home a run on a base hit followed by Seahorn scoring another run when she grounded out to shortstop.
Hannah Bender pitched the final 3 2/3 innings in relief to pick up her first win of the year.
The Reddies totaled 22 hits on the day with Halter going 4-for-7 with four runs scored.
White and Cullins had three hits each, with Seahorn also having three hits including eight runs batted in.
The two teams will complete the four-game series with a double-header Saturday at Noon.
