Reddie Women's Basketball Prepared for GAC Matchup with SNU


Coming off a thrilling victory at Harding on Saturday, the Henderson State women's basketball returns to the Duke Wells Center for a Great American Conference matchup against Southern Nazarene on Thursday, with tipoff set or 5:30 p.m.

The Reddies, 7-4 GAC, defeated Harding 66-62 on Saturday in Searcy.

Henderson State was led by Dulincia Keener who had 15 points and nine rebounds, while Haleigh Henson pitched in 14 and Victoria Stewart had 13.

On the night, HSU was 16-of-19 from the free throw line for 84 percent.

Henderson finished the game shooting 39 percent from the field making 22-of-57 shot attempts, while Harding converted on 22-of-64 for 34 percent.

The Reddies also dished out 11 team assists while limiting the Lady Bisons to 8.

HSU averages 72.1 points per game this season, shooting 41 percent from the field and 35 percent from 3-point range.

The Reddies also knock down 1.2 more three-pointers per game than opponents this season.

Keener leads the team in scoring this season averaging 18.4 points per game, and also averages 8.5 rebounds per contest.

Stewart averages 12.5 points per game and also averages 2.6 assists per game, while Henson is third in scoring averaging 12.2 points.

This season, Henderson State is 4-2 at the Duke Wells Center, with victories over East Central, Southeastern Oklahoma, Rogers State, and Ouachita Baptist.

HSU will look to improve to 5-2 in home contests if it can come up with a win over Southern Nazarene.

In the last meeting between Henderson State and Southern Nazarene, HSU defeated SNU 70-61 in Bethany, Okla. back on Nov. 19. 

A double-double effort from Keener led the way for Henderson State, as the senior poured in 23 points on 10-of-17 attempts from the field and ripped down 10 boards.

Stewart had a stellar performance for HSU as well, scoring 16 points, pulling down nine rebounds and dishing out six assists.

Henderson State finished the night shooting 25-of-61 from the field for 41 percent, while limiting Southern Nazarene to 19-of-65 for 29 percent.

HSU also outscored SNU 20-14 in the final quarter of play to preserve the win.

HSU leads the all-time series over SNU 4-3. The first time the two institutions played each other was in the 2012-13 season, as SNU took a 64-60 victory.

Southern Nazarene comes in off a 91-77 home loss to Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday, and sport a 3-8 record in the GAC.

SE Okla. used a 12-0 run in the first quarter to jump out to an 18-6 lead over SNU. 

Abby Boyd led the Crimson Storm in scoring with 15 points in that game while pitching in three assists as well.

Turnovers plagued the Crimson Storm, as they committed 17 on the day, which led to 27 Savage Storm points.
