Henderson State improved to 5-1 on the season as the women's tennis team beat NAIA #22 Evangel Univ. 8-1, Saturday in Russellville, Ark.
 
The day began with the two teams splitting the first two doubles matches as Henderson's 
Sydnee Parker and Alexandra C. Morillo defeated Jessica Clark and Emily Cook 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
 
At No. 2 doubles, Evangel's Alicia Williams and Mauread Cleary evened things outlasting 
Mariah Bartlett and 
Sara Griffin 8-5.
 
Henderson's No. 1 duo of 
Annie Shannon and 
Amanda Korinihona set the tone for singles play as they rallied from a 5-1 deficit to beat Jenna Elliott and Breanna Flemister 9-7 to put the Reddies up 2-1.
 
Sara Griffin quickly extended Henderson's lead to 3-1 in beating Cook at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-0.
 
At No. 1 singles, 
Annie Shannon improved to 6-0 on the year by defeating Jenna Elliott 6-2, 6-1.
 
Amanda Korinihona clinched the match by winning at No. 2 singles beating Breanna Flemister 6-4, 7-5.
 
Henderson went on to sweep the remaining matches with Alexandra C. Morillo beating Alicia Williams at No. 3 singles, 3-6, 6-1, 10-5.
 
At No. 4 singles, 
Sydnee Parker beat Mauread Cleary 6-3, 1-6, 14-12, while 
Mariah Bartlett rallied to beat Jessica Clark 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
 
Henderson State will next play host to Delta State on Feb. 14 at the Bettye Wallace Tennis Center.
