Despite a furious rally in singles play, the Henderson State women's tennis team lost to Arkansas Tech 5-4, Sunday in Russellville, Ark.

The Reddies, 10-9 overall and 3-4 in the Great American Conference, fell behind 3-0 as Arkansas Tech won all three doubles matches to begin the day.

Henderson battled back to make it 3-2 after the first two singles matches as
Annie Shannon defeated Macarena Sedano Acosta 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while
Sydnee Parker cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Teresa Sanchez at No. 3 singles.

For Shannon, it was her sixth straight win improving her record to 15-2 on the year, while Parker finished GAC play unbeaten at 7-0 while going 13-3 overall.

At No. 4 singles, Alexandria Cuello got past Annabel Rowlands 7-5, 6-4 while
Mariah Bartlett recorded a 6-4, 6-2 win over Camila Roca at No. 5 singles.

The Reddies will travel to Bentonville, Ark. later this week for the Great American Conference Women's Tennis Championship tournament. Henderson State will face Harding in the opening round on Thursday beginning at 2 p.m. at the Bentonville Visitors and Convention Bureau.
