With its spot in the Great American Conference tournament on the line, the Henderson State women's basketball team will go on its final Oklahoma road trip of the year this weekend to play Northwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday at noon.
Series:
Henderson is 6-3 all-time against NWOSU and won the first matchup between the two schools back in January, 87-74. The Reddies are just 6-10 all-time against SWOSU and lost earlier this year 85-80 to the Lady Bulldogs in Arkadelphia.
Henderson State Notes:
The Reddies enter the final weekend of the regular season 8-12 in the Great American Conference and battling for one of the final two spots in the GAC Tournament in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, on March 2-5.Â
Henderson still controls its own destiny and if the Reddies win both games this weekend, they are a lock for the GAC Tournament. However, if the Reddies were to drop a game, things would get very complicated. There are three teams (HSU, Arkansas-Monticello and Southern Nazarene) who are all tied at 8-12 in the GAC standings and fighting for two spots this weekend.
As of today, Henderson would have the tie-breaker over Southern Nazarene should the two teams finish in a dead heat. Although both teams took a game from the other in the season series, the Reddies currently have the better "best win" according to the conference standings. Henderson defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State back in early December, which is now paying off for the Reddies, as the Savage Storm have been on a tear ever since and are currently in third place overall in the GAC. Some reshuffling could take place this weekend though, as SOSU's final two regular season games come against the top two teams in the league, Harding and Arkansas Tech. Should the Savage Storm fall in those two games and the Lady Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State win their final two against Ouachita Baptist and Henderson, SWOSU would pass SOSU for third place in the GAC, which would result in Southern Nazarene holding the tie-breaker over the Reddies because they defeated SWOSU two weeks ago. The Crimson Storm's final two games of the regular season come against Southern Arkansas and Arkansas-Monticello. SNU has defeated both teams this season. Should the Reddies end up in a tie with UAM, the Blossoms would win the tie-breaker because of their two wins over Henderson this year. UAM's final two games come against Oklahoma Baptist and SNU, who they are 1-1 against this season.Â
Northwestern Oklahoma State Notes:
The Lady Rangers are 6-14 in the GAC and 7-19 overall on the year. They are led by junior guard Kalea King, who averages 15.8 points per game, third-best in the GAC.
Much like the Reddies, NWOSU likes to take the 3-point shot, and leads the league in 3-pointers made this season with 218 total, or 8.4 3-pointers per game.Â
Southwestern Oklahoma State Notes:
The Lady Bulldogs are 13-7 in GAC play the season and 17-9 overall. They are currently in fourth place in the conference standings.Â
SWOSU boasts the top-two scorers in the league in forward Hailey Tucker, who leads the GAC with 18.3 points per game, and guard Hayden Priddy, who is second in scoring with 16 points per game. Tucker also leads the GAC in rebounding, averaging 9.2 per game, while Priddy is second in the league in assists per game with 4.8
The Lady Bulldogs are the top scoring team in the GAC and average 79.9 points per contest. They are the only team in the league thus far to score 2000 points for the season. SWOSU is 10-1 at home this season.
