Henderson heads to Monticello for GAC series with UAM

Henderson State hits the road on Friday for the second-straight weekend, as the Reddies travel to Monticello, Arkansas, for two doubleheaders with UAM beginning at 2 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday.

Series:
The Reddies are just 21-51 all-time against the Blossoms, but had great success against UAM last season, sweeping the four-game series in Arkadelphia at Dee White Field and outscoring the Blossoms 33-9 in those games.

Henderson State Notes:
Henderson enters the weekend 16-16 overall and 10-10 in Great American Conference play in the 2017 season. The Reddies are currently in a tie for fifth place in the GAC standings with East Central. HSU split last weekend's series with the Tigers in Ada, Oklahoma, taking one game on both Saturday and Sunday.

Keirsten Seahorn has been the catalyst for Henderson at the plate, as she leads the team with a batting average of .358, a slugging percentage of .578, and an OBP of .470. Seahorn is fourth in walks (18), sixth in doubles (9) and ninth in RBIs (25) in the GAC. She had seven hits and seven RBIs in the four games against ECU last weekend and hit a grand slam in the final game on Sunday.

Along with Seahorn, Courtney Warren continues to swing the bat well. She carries a batting average of .330 and leads the team in hits with 35 so far this season.

Michelle Sorensen proved critical for the Reddies in the circle against ECU, as she won both of her starts on Saturday and Sunday and struck out 18 batters on the weekend in 16.0 innings of work. Sorensen continues to be one of the dominant pitchers in the GAC and leads the conference in starts (17) and innings pitched (135.1), while ranking second in opposing batting average (.171) and strikeouts (137), and third in ERA (1.60).

As a team, Henderson is fourth in the GAC in ERA (2.42) and OBP (.360), and is fifth in hits, with 230 to its credit thus far in 2017. The Reddies are just 2-6 in true road games this season.

Arkansas-Monticello Notes:
UAM hosts the Reddies this weekend and carries a 20-10 overall record and 13-5 mark in the GAC into the series. The Blossoms have won their last five contests and are alone in third place in the conference standings, trailing second place Southern Arkansas by just two games. Of UAM's five GAC series so far this year, four have come against the bottom four teams in the league, Oklahoma Baptist, SNU, SWOSU and NWOSU, who have a combined 18-58 record in 2017.

The Blossoms are led by Kendra Coleman, who serves a dual-purpose for UAM, batting .330 with 30 hits and 23 RBIs, while also carrying a 12-3 record with a 1.18 ERA in the circle. UAM will also lean on McKenzie Rice at the plate, who leads the team with a .362 batting average, a .681 slugging percentage and 34 hits this season.

UAM is 7-2 in true home games this year and has not yet lost to a GAC opponent on its home field in Monticello.
