Henderson State put together a strong effort against No. 41 Southeastern Oklahoma, but the Reddies fell short losing to the Savage Storm 5-4, in women's tennis action Saturday at the Bettye Wallace Tennis Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.

The Reddies began the day winning two of three doubles matches to take a 2-1 advantage.

At No. 1 doubles, the Henderson duo of Annie Shannon and Thea Minor defeated Alexsandra Reljic and Darija Catipovic 9-7. Reljic and Catipovic entered the match ranked No. 4 in the Central Region.

Lauren Miller and Maddie McJunkins cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles over Luisa Auffarth and Maria Martinez to give the Reddies the lead after doubles play.

Shannon took on Reljic at No. 1 singles. Reljic, who is ranked No. 9 in the region, was overwhelmed by the Reddie junior as Shannon won 6-2 and 6-3 to put Henderson on top 3-1.
SOSU took a 4-3 lead winning  matches at number two, three and six singles before Lorraine Banimataku tied the match at 4-4 with a comeback win over Darija Catipovic 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.
 
The match would be decided at No. 5 singles with Henderson's Mariah Bartlett and Southeastern's Maria Martinez battling for three sets.
 
Bartlett won the opening set 7-5, before losing set two in a tiebreaker 7-6 (6-3). Bartlett would put up a valiant effort but lost the final set 6-4 as Martinez claimed the match for Southeastern.
 
Henderson will next take on Harding on April 6 with a 2 p.m. start at the Bettye Wallace Tennis Center.
