Henderson travels to Weatherford, Oklahoma to take on SWOSU

A week after stealing a game from nationally-ranked Southern Arkansas, the Henderson State softball team will travel to Weatherford, Oklahoma, to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State in a four-game Great American Conference series, with double-headers beginning at 3 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday.

Series:
Henderson has had great success against SWOSU and leads the all-time series between the schools 17-6, which includes a four-game sweep of the Bulldogs last year in Arkadelphia.

Henderson State Notes:
The Reddies head to Weatherford this weekend with a record of 17-25 and 11-19 in GAC play. With two weeks left in the regular season, Henderson is in a three-way tie for sixth place in the conference standings with Southern Nazarene and Northwestern Oklahoma State. Only eight teams make the conference tournament in Bentonville, Arkansas, which begins on May 4, but the Reddies control their own destiny as it relates to the postseason. Henderson faces both NWOSU and SNU in the final two weeks of the season and has an opportunity to cement its spot in the GAC Tournament with series wins.

HSU hosted the big bats of No. 7 Southern Arkansas last weekend in Arkadelphia, and despite dropping the series to the Lady Muleriders, Henderson was able to pull out a 6-1 win in the final game; handing SAU just its fifth GAC loss this year. Pitcher Sydney Bonner had one of the best games of her career in the circle for the Reddies in the upset victory, going all seven innings and allowing just one run on six hits, while giving up no walks. Olivia Trapp went 3-for-4 at the plate in the win with an RBI, while Rebekah Teel scored two runs for the Reddies.

Statistically, Keirsten Seahorn leads the Reddies offensively, carrying a team-high .317 batting average while tallying 19 runs and 27 RBIs this year. Courtney Warren leads the team with 41 hits and 60 total bases.

In the circle, Michelle Sorensen has been solid for Henderson, appearing in 31 games and pitching 162.2 innings with a 1.94 ERA. Sorensen has 159 strikeouts on the season and is holding opponents to a .183 batting average.

Collectively, Henderson is batting .250 and holding its opponents to a .228 batting average. The Reddies will need to reverse their road woes this weekend against SWOSU, as HSU is just 2-13 in away games this year.

Southwestern Oklahoma Notes:
SWOSU is 14-24 overall and 8-20 in GAC action this season. The Bulldogs have won three of their last five games, but prior to that stretch, had won just once in their previous 13 games. They are in a tie with Oklahoma Baptist for last place in the conference standings.

The Bulldogs are led by Taya Haney, who serves double-duty for SWOSU, batting .346 at the plate while starting 13 games in the circle, and Tori Hawk, who leads the team with 31 RBIs this year.

Haney has appeared in 20 games this year as a pitcher, and carries a 5.23 ERA and a record of 3-9. Taylor Eaves will also see action in the circle for SWOSU and has a 4.83 ERA and a 4-6 record in 2017.
