After splitting its series last weekend against Southwestern Oklahoma State, the Henderson State softball team will return to Dee White Field on Tuesday for a Battle of the Ravine doubleheader against rival Ouachita Baptist, with the first pitch set for 4 p.m.
Series:
The Reddies are 34-29 all-time against the Lady Tigers, but dropped two games to OBU back on April 4, 5-3 and 3-2.
Henderson State Notes:
HSU is coming off of a hard-fought series split with SWOSU this past weekend in Weatherford, Oklahoma. The Reddies took both games of Friday's doubleheader, but fell in both games on Saturday to the Bulldogs. Henderson is 19-27 overall this season and 13-21 in Great American Conference action, which puts the Reddies alone in eighth place in the conference standings, two games ahead of Ouachita Baptist.Â
Eight teams make the GAC Tournament in Bentonville, Arkansas, on May 4-6, meaning that Henderson is in position for the No. 8 seed and would receive the final spot in the field if the season ended today. HSU has a chance to make up some ground, as its final two weekend opponents of the regular season, Southern Nazarene and Northwestern Oklahoma State, are just one game ahead of the Reddies with 14 GAC wins.Â
The Reddies had a strong series offensively in Weatherford, as they racked up 41 hits and 27 runs in four games.
Rebekah Teel had five hits on the weekend, while
Ashleigh Erb,
Keirsten Seahorn,
Selena Mendoza and
Olivia Trapp each had four. Both
Sydney Bonner and
Michelle Sorensen picked up wins in the circle for Henderson on Friday. Until the SWOSU series, HSU had won just two road games this season, but doubled that road win total on Friday alone.
Ouachita Baptist Notes:
The Lady Tigers are 17-29 on the season and 11-23 in GAC play. They enter Tuesday's doubleheader following a 3-1 series loss to Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva, Oklahoma. OBU took the final game from the Lady Rangers on Saturday, but prior to that win, had lost their previous five games.Â
Ouachita is led by Macy Nantz, who leads the Lady Tigers with a .331 batting average, 22 RBIs and a .568 slugging percentage, while also carrying a 3-6 record and 3.78 ERA in the circle. The pitcher who has seen the most action for OBU this year is Kelsey O'Brien, who has pitched 127.1 innings with a 7-14 record and a 5.37 ERA.Â
OBU is 4-12 this season in road games but took both games of a doubleheader with the Reddies last year at Dee White Field.
