After a tough series last weekend on the road at Arkansas-Monticello, the Henderson State softball team will make the shortest road-trip in college sports on Tuesday when it takes on Ouachita Baptist in a double-header at Sully Anderson Field, with first pitch set for 4 p.m.
Series:
The Reddies are 34-27 all-time against arch rival Ouachita Baptist and went 1-3 against the Lady Tigers last season.
Henderson State Notes:
Henderson enters Tuesday's double-header 16-20 overall and 10-13 in the Great American Conference. The Reddies are currently in a tie for fifth place in the league standings with East Central. HSU is coming off of a difficult four-game series against third-place Arkansas-Monticello this weekend, which saw them go 0-4 against a talented Blossoms squad. The Reddies had a difficult time scoring runs against UAM and were held scoreless in three of the four games in Monticello.
Keirsten Seahorn and
Courtney Warren have carried Henderson at the plate, batting .330 and .303 respectively, while combining for 35 RBIs and 71 hits this season.
Alexis Morton had a nice weekend for the Reddies, securing four hits and scoring two of HSU's three runs on the weekend. Morton is hitting .291 with 30 hits and 10 RBIs in 2017.
Michelle Sorensen has a 12-9 record this year for Henderson and has pitched 150.0 innings and struck out 151 batters while carrying a 1.98 ERA.
Sydney Bonner has also been reliable for HSU in the circle and has pitched 53.2 innings this season with a 3.35 ERA.
As a team, the Reddies are batting .254 but are holding opponents to just a .217 batting average.Â
Ouachita Baptist Notes:
The Lady Tigers are 13-23 overall and 7-17 in GAC play this season. The enter Tuesday's double-header after being swept by Southern Arkansas at home on Friday and Saturday.
OBU is led by Macy Nantz, who has a .300 batting average, a .540 slugging percentage and a team-leading 54 total bases this season. The Lady Tigers have three pitchers who could see time in the circle: Nantz, Marissa Butler and Kelsey O'Brien, who have a combined ERA of 4.46.Â
As a team, OBU has the exact same batting average as Henderson, .254, but its opponents are hitting .296 against the Lady Tigers in 2017. Ouachita is just 4-8 at Sully Anderson Field this season.
