ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- Henderson State will aim to stretch its winning streak to six games and stay unbeaten in Great American Conference play on Saturday when the Reddies face Arkansas-Monticello at 1 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.
REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson State (7-1, 3-0) picked up its biggest win of the season last Saturday when the Reddies defeated the then No. 6 team in the Central Region, Harding, 84-77 to move to 3-0 in GAC play this year.
Pink Jones led the way with 31 points, while
Blu Jones had 18. The victory was HSU's fifth in a row.
- With the win over Harding, the Reddies jumped up two spots in the latest D2SIDA Central Region Poll which was released on Tuesday. Henderson is now No. 6 in the region according to the poll and one of just three GAC teams to be featured in the rankings.
-
Pink Jones is sixth in the GAC in scoring (16.6 points per game) and third in assists (3.9 per game).
Hailey Estes is eighth in the conference with 16.5 points per game and is fourth in rebounding (8.4 per game). She has hit the second-most 3-pointers of any player in the league so far this season with 21.
Karrington Whaley is second in the conference in blocked shots (11) and blocks per game (1.4) and is fourth in the GAC in field goal percentage (60.3 percent).
- In GAC games so far this year, Henderson's defense has been outstanding. The Reddies are No. 1 in the league in scoring defense, allowing just 60.3 points per game to opponents. HSU also has the second-best turnover margin in the conference (+5.0).
- The Reddies' 7-1 record ties its best start to a season since the 2011-12 campaign when they also opened up 7-1. The last time HSU began a season 8-1 or better was in 2006-07 when Henderson started 12-0.
- Saturday is the 91st meeting all-time between HSU and UAM. UAM leads the series 54-36.
SCOUTING ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO
- UAM comes into Saturday's matchup 2-5 on the year and 1-2 in GAC action. The Blossoms broke a 21-game losing streak to Arkansas Tech last weekend when they defeated the Golden Suns 74-65 for their first conference win of the season.
- MacKenzie Johnson leads UAM in scoring this season (20.0 points per game) and has been wildly efficient in doing so. Johnson is shooting an astounding 69.1 percent from the field as a guard and is 56-for-81 from the floor on the year. There has only been one game this season in which she shot under 50 percent from the field.
- The Blossoms have struggled shooting the ball as a team and are 11th in the GAC in field goal percentage (36.1 percent), however, they have played terrific defense in league games and are third in the conference in scoring defense, allowing just 63.7 points per game to GAC opposition.Â
