Reddies Aim For Season Sweep of Harding in Final Regular Season Contest

LIVE STATS | LIVE VIDEO | LIVE AUDIO

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The Henderson State women's basketball team looks to continue its remarkable year when it faces off with Harding at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday night in Searcy, Arkansas, in the final regular season game of 2017-18.

Last Time Out
- Henderson State got 27 points, six rebounds and five assists from Pink Jones and finished the game on a 16-3 run to get past Southern Arkansas 83-70 on Thursday night in Magnolia, Arkansas, and notch its 20th win of the season.

- The Reddies (20-7, 16-5) led for the entire game but after building up a 17-point advantage in the first half, their lead was trimmed down to just 62-60 entering the fourth quarter. SAU (9-18, 8-13) took its first lead of the game, 64-63, at the 7:50 mark and continued to lead it 68-67 with 6:30 to play. It was at that moment that Pink Jones took over, as she scored the next eight points for the Reddies to push them in front 75-68 which forced a Lady Muleriders timeout.

- The timeout from SAU did little to slow Henderson's momentum, as again it was Jones coming through for the Reddies with a beautiful assist to Karrington Whaley and then scoring inside once more to make the HSU lead 79-70 with just over three minutes left. Haleigh Henson put the nail in the coffin on the next trip down the court by drilling a long 3-pointer to cap off a massive 15-0 run and stretch HSU's advantage out to 82-70 with 2:30 remaining. The Lady Muleriders tried to get something going in the final moments, but some solid defense from the Reddies shut them down and helped Henderson close it out for win No. 20 on the year.

- Pink Jones was tremendous for the Reddies and finished with 27 points — 10 of which came in that big 15-0 run in the fourth quarter — on 10 of 15 shooting from the floor. Henson added 18 points and six rebounds and hit four 3-pointers, while Blu Jones had 12 points and five boards. Whaley continued her strong play for Henderson and chipped in 10 points and six rebounds. Hailey Estes fell three points and one rebound shy of a double-double and finished with seven points and nine boards.

Reddies Report
- Henderson is locked into the No. 3 seed at the GAC Tournament next weekend and will play at 8 p.m. Friday against the No. 6 seed, who is to be determined by the final round of games on Saturday. If Ouachita Baptist defeats Southern Arkansas on Saturday, it would secure the No. 6 seed, which would amount to a third Battle of the Ravine showdown in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

- With her efforts on Thursday, Pink Jones became one of just four players in the GAC to score more than 400 points this season. Jones averages 16.2 points per game this year.

- Haleigh Henson moved into fourth place all-time in scoring for Henderson with 18 points on Thursday. Henson now has 1263 points in her career at HSU and needs just six more 3-pointers this year to set the school record for three's in a single season. She has hit 77 so far this year. She has played 30 or more minutes in all but two games this season.

- Lani Snowden is 11 of 20 from 3-point range in her last five games for Henderson (55 percent shooting). She is also shooting 89.3 percent at the free throw line this year (25 for 28).

- Hailey Estes played all 40 minutes against SAU, which is the fifth time this season she has played every second of a game for the Reddies.

Scouting Harding
- The Lady Bisons enter Saturday's contest 15-14 overall and 11-10 in GAC play this season. Harding is led by head coach Tim Kirby who is in his 13th season as the head coach of the Lady Bisons. HU has won nine of its last 11 games and is 11-3 at home this year.

- Harding is led by freshman post Kellie Lampo and senior post Sydney Layrock, who both average roughly 12 points and six rebounds per game.

- The Lady Bisons have the No. 2 scoring defense in the GAC behind Henderson (65.6 points per game) and are the No. 2 rebounding team in the league as well (43.6 rebounds per game). Harding struggles, however, with turnovers and is last in the GAC with a turnover margin of -3.43.

- Harding will finish as either the No. 4 or No. 5 seed in the GAC Tournament, depending on the outcome of Saturday's game.

First Matchup with Harding
- Pink Jones poured in a then career-high 29 points and Hailey Estes notched her fourth double-double in five games, as Henderson State defeated Harding 79-64 on Jan. 18 to stretch its then program-record Great American Conference winning streak to seven games.

- After shooting better than 50 percent in the first half, the Reddies led by seven at the break and through the first five minutes of the third quarter, that lead remained unchanged. Over the final five minutes of the period, though, Henderson went on a huge run, out-scoring the Lady Bisons 18-9, behind 10 points and two 3-pointers from Haleigh Henson, to take control and stretch its lead out to 61-45 heading into the fourth. Harding could not rally in the final period as the Reddies pulled away for a comfortable win.

- Jones was simply unstoppable for the Reddies all evening, finishing with a career-high 29 points on 12-of-18 shooting from the floor. Thursday marks the third time in the past five games that Jones has notched a new career-high in points. Estes continued her work on both ends of the court for Henderson, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double in the last five outings. Henson had a magnificent third quarter, and scored 10 of her 12 points during the Reddies' big game-breaking run. Torrie Thompson was the final double-digit scorer for Henderson and did a bit of everything, finishing with 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

- As a team, the Reddies shot over 48 percent from the floor and held the Lady Bisons to just 37.5 percent shooting for the game. Henderson also out-rebounded a much bigger Harding team 42-35 and out-scored them in the paint 40-28.
