ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State battled on Friday evening but was swept by Mississippi College 9-0 at the Ward Tennis Center.
The Lady Choctaws put the Reddies in a hole early by taking all three doubles matches. Henderson's
Sydnee Parker and
Mariah Bartlett fell 8-1 at No. 2 doubles and then the Reddies' No. 1 team of
Annie Shannon and
Thea Minor followed suit in an 8-4 defeat.
Lorraine Banimataku and Lorish Puluspene, the No. 3 team for HSU, put up the best fight, but ultimately fell as well, 8-5, to put the Reddies down 3-0 heading into singles play.
The Reddies continued to struggle in the individual matches, as only Shannon, Henderson's No. 1, was able to take her match into three sets. Shannon dropped the first set but rebounded strongly for a 6-1 victory in the second. Her momentum was short-lived however, as she dropped the final frame and fell 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.
Henderson looks to get back on track tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. against Angelo State in the Ward Tennis Center.
