ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State went toe-to-toe with No. 21 Tarleton State on Friday afternoon, but the TexAnns claimed No. 2 and No. 4 singles victories late to defeat the Reddies 5-4.

The Reddies got singles wins from their No. 1 singles player, Annie Shannon, who battled to a straight-set win over Alicia Barberoux 6-3, 6-2, their No. 5 Mariah Bartlett, who took her match in dominant fashion, 6-0, 6-0, as well as a default win at No. 6 singles from Lorish Puluspene.

Needing one more singles win to take the match, both No. 2 Thea Minor and No. 4 Lorraine Banimataku found themselves in tight contests down the stretch, but Tarleton State proved to be too much. Minor fell in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, and although she claimed the first set, Banimataku dropped a three-set nail bitter to Shelby Fillingame 6-3, 0-6, 7-5, as the TexAnns pulled through for 5-4 match victory.

Tarleton State took two of three doubles matches to begin the day, claiming wins at No. 1 doubles over the Reddies' team of Shannon and Minor, 9-8 (7-4) and at No. 2 over Sydnee Parker and Bartlett, 8-2. Henderson won No. 3 doubles by default for its lone doubles victory.

Henderson's next match is Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. against Missouri Western State in Russellville, Arkansas.
