Reddies Head to Durant, Oklahoma for Series with Southeastern

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The Henderson State softball team will make its second-straight weekend road trip tomorrow when it takes on Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant, Oklahoma, with doubleheaders set for 2 p.m. Friday and 12 p.m. Saturday.

Last Time Out
- The Reddies (14-9, 6-6) had chances against Arkansas Tech on Sunday and Monday in Russellville, Arkansas, especially in the series opener and finale, which were each close games throughout, but they could come out with just one win, as the Golden Suns took three of the four games to hand Henderson its first series loss of the year.

- Henderson, who had been rolling offensively, struggled at the plate in the series and managed just 19 hits total in the four games against ATU's pitchers.

Reddies Report
- Despite the struggles in Russellville, the Reddies still boast strong offensive numbers and have six players with a batting average of .300 or better.

- Three freshmen, Lindsey Williams, Madie Green and Kailey Reese, continue to shine for Henderson. Williams has the best batting average (.417) and OBP (.500) on the team, Reese is hitting .375 at the plate and has 24 hits this season, and Green leads the team in RBIs (21), home runs (5) and slugging percentage (.643).

- Bethany Allen is the hits leader for HSU in her leadoff role with 29 so far this year. Allen has started every game this season, has seven stolen bases and has struck out just twice in 80 at-bats in 2018.

- In the circle, Sydney Bonner has been the go-to pitcher thus far for the Reddies. She carries a record of 4-4 with a 4.05 ERA and has started eight games. Freshman Becca Almond is 2-0 this season for HSU and got Henderson's only win in the series against ATU on Sunday. Fellow freshman Mallory Brewer got her second save of the year in that 2-1 victory.

- Henderson is in fifth place in the GAC standings, three full games behind Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Reddies, as a team, rank fourth in the conference in batting average (.303), hits (186) and runs scored (110). HSU is tied for tops in the league in triples (5).

Scouting Southeastern Oklahoma State
- The Savage Storm are 15-10 overall and 9-3 in GAC play this season. They are led by head coach Ron Faubion, who has a career record of 691-305 in Durant, Oklahoma.

- Offensively, SOSU is led by by Symphoni Shomo, who has the best batting average on the team (.378) as well as Elexis Watson, who has 26 RBIs this season and a slugging percentage of .667. The Savage Storm have six players with batting averages of .300 or better and all six have started every game for SOSU this season.

- The ace in the pitching circle for the Savage Storm is Kelsey Meeks, who carries a 2.75 ERA and a record of 13-5 this year. She has appeared in 21 games, started 12, and boasts 12 complete games and 53 strikeouts on the season.

- SOSU's three GAC opponents so far this season (Northwestern Oklahoma State, Arkansas-Monticello, Southwestern Oklahoma State) are the bottom three teams in the league according to the conference standings and have a combined record of 8-49 this year.

Last Season vs. Southeastern Oklahoma State
- Henderson took the series against SOSU in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, last season 3-1 after sweeping the first doubleheader and splitting on day two.

- Michelle Sorensen threw a no-hitter in the opener to help HSU get the 1-0 win, while Bonner held the Savage Storm to just four hits and got the 2-1 victory in game two. The Reddies blitzed SOSU 10-1 in game three, behind a one-hitter from Sorensen, to claim the series win.
