ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — After splitting its series with the defending Great American Conference champions last weekend, the Henderson State softball team will look to continue its winning ways when it faces off against Arkansas Tech in Russellville, Arkansas, with doubleheaders scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m. and Monday at 12 p.m.
Last Time Out
- Henderson (13-6, 5-3) came out strong in its series with No. 10 Harding this past weekend and took the first two games from the Lady Bisons on Friday, 3-0 and 2-1. Although the Reddies dropped two close games on Saturday, it marked the first time since 2016 that Harding had lost both games of a doubleheader and also not won a GAC series outright.
Reddies Report
- The Reddies have gotten off to a terrific start at the plate this season and boast seven players with a batting average above .300. Three tremendous freshmen have led the way offensively for Henderson:
Lindsey Williams,
Madie Green and
Kailey Reese.
- Williams has started 12 games and carries the highest batting average on the team at .450 and the highest OBP at .532. She also has 11 runs scored and 18 hits this year.
- Green is hitting .397 at the plate (ninth in the GAC), has 23 hits (sixth in the GAC), 19 RBIs (second-most in the GAC), three homers and a team-leading 36 total bases this year with a .612 slugging percentage. She has started every game but one this season for the Reddies and is the reigning GAC Freshman of the Week.
- Reese, like Green, has started all but one game this year for Henderson and has a batting average of .389, 21 hits, 12 runs scored and 11 RBIs.
- Senior
Bethany Allen and junior
Ashleigh Erb are the only two players on the team who have started all 19 games this season — Allen at shortstop and Erb at third base. Allen is batting .368 and has a team-leading 25 hits, 16 runs scored and seven stolen bases. She has been consistent in the lead-off spot, striking out just twice in 68 at-bats so far this year. Erb has four doubles, two triples and two home runs this year and carries a .286 average at the plate.
- Senior catcher
Courtney Warren, who was an Honorable Mention All-GAC selection in 2017, has continued her solid play behind the plate and holds a batting average of .375 with 18 hits and three triples to her credit.
- Senior pitcher
Sydney Bonner has performed well in the circle for Henderson and boasts a 2.92 ERA and 4-2 record. Bonner has two complete games this season and is holding opposing batters to a .260 average at the plate.
- As a team Henderson ranks first in the league in triples (5), second in doubles (34), second in OBP (.402), third in team batting average (.323) and third in runs scored (103). The Reddies are currently fifth in the GAC standings.
- The Reddies are off to their best start since 2015, when they won the GAC regular season title and earned a berth in the NCAA Central Regional. That squad also got off to a 13-6 start through 19 games, before eventually finishing with a 43-15 record overall, which included 27-7 in the conference.

Three of the four contests went into extra innings, including the opener, which went 19 innings to become the longest game in GAC history and the third-longest game ever played at the NCAA DII level. Ove the course of the four games, the two teams played a combined 45 innings.
