Reddies Face Southern Nazarene in Season Finale with GAC Tournament Seeding at Stake

LIVE STATS: GAME 1 | GAME 2 | GAME 3 | GAME 4
LIVE VIDEO: FRIDAY | SATURDAY

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State will look to lock up its seed in the Great American Conference Tournament this weekend, when it takes on Southern Nazarene in the final series of the regular season at Dee White Field. The Reddies and Crimson Storm will play doubleheaders at 4 p.m. Friday and 12 p.m. Saturday.

REDDIES REPORT
- The Reddies are 30-21 overall this season, including 22-18 in GAC play, and are currently in fourth place in the GAC standings heading into the final weekend of the year. The top eight teams in the league at the conclusion of the regular season will play in Bentonville, Arkansas, next week at the 2018 GAC Tournament. Henderson has clinched its spot in the postseason, and will be either the No. 4, 5 or 6 seed.

- A split this weekend with SNU would guarantee the Reddies no worse than the No. 5 seed at the GAC Tournament. A sweep of the Crimson Storm would lock Henderson into the No. 4 seed. Should HSU drop the series to SNU, and Harding win its series against NWOSU, it would bump the Reddies back into the No. 6 seed.

- Should Henderson end up as the No. 4 or No. 5 seed in the GAC Tournament, it would play at 6 p.m. next Wednesday in the final game of the first round at the Tiger Athletic Complex. If the Reddies fall to No. 6, they would play in the first game of the day on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. against the No. 3 seed, which will be either Arkansas Tech or Southeastern Oklahoma State.

- With its split against NWOSU this past weekend, the Reddies secured a 30-win season for the fourth time in the last five years.

- The Reddies are 15-6 at Dee White Field this season. Since 2015, Henderson has won just over 65 percent of its games at its home field.

- Freshman Madie Green and senior Bethany Allen rank sixth and eighth, respectively, in the GAC in batting average. Green is batting .392, and has 60 hits and 10 home runs this season, while Allen has a .383 average with 62 hits and 11 doubles. Freshman Kailey Reese is also among the top hitters in the conference, and carries a batting average of .349 with 51 hits and 10 doubles.

- Freshman pitcher Mallory Brewer ranks fifth in the GAC in ERA (2.16). She has won five games for the Reddies this season in 21 appearances.

- Senior pitcher Sydney Bonner is tied for fifth in the league in wins with 11. Bonner has appeared in 27 games, with 22 starts, and has an ERA of 3.12, which ranks 11th in the conference.

- Saturday is Senior Day, where the Reddies will honor Bethany Allen, Sydney Bonner, Alexia Lopez, Olivia Trapp and Courtney Warren. The pregame festivities will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.

SCOUTING SOUTHERN NAZARENE
- The Crimson Storm are 22-24-1 overall and 18-16-1 in conference play. SNU is fifth in the GAC standings, more than two games back of the Reddies. To jump Henderson, the Crimson Storm would need to win three of the four games this weekend.

- SNU is led by one of the best bats in the GAC in Mahina Sauer, who leads the league in batting average (.431) and is tied for second in hits (62). The Crimson Storm also have a workhorse in the pitching circle in senior starter Katelyn Brown, who has appeared in 41 games this year, claimed 15 wins and carries a 2.67 ERA. Brown leads the GAC in strikeouts with 196 this season.

- Because of weather conflicts, SNU has played five less conference games than Henderson. The Crimson Storm had doubleheaders against both Arkansas-Monticello and East Central, and a single contest against Southeastern Oklahoma State, canceled due to weather.

- The Crimson Storm won all three meetings between the two teams in 2017. SNU took both games in the final doubleheader of the regular season, and then defeated the Reddies 2-1 in a 16-inning elimination game at the GAC Tournament.
