ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State won all three doubles contests, and did not drop a set in singles play, to sweep past rival Ouachita Baptist 9-0 for the second time this season on Thursday afternoon.
The closest matchup of the day came at No. 1 doubles, where
Annie Shannon and
Sydnee Parker found themselves in a tight contest throughout with the Lady Tigers' Mallory Tabler and Kendra Dinsmore. After the two sides battled to an 8-8 stalemate, things moved to the tiebreaker, where Shannon and Parker prevailed, 7-3, to win the match 9-8.
Neither Henderson's No. 2 nor No. 3 doubles teams had near as much trouble, as both coasted to easy 8-1 wins to put the Reddies in front 3-0.
Already in full control, the Reddies poured it on in singles play, as No. 4
Mariah Bartlett and No. 5
Lorish Puluspene each posted 6-0, 6-0 victories to eliminate any suspense and give Henderson the five wins needed to claim the match. The remaining four singles players each won in straight-sets for HSU, as no Lady Tiger won more than three games in any contest.
The win improves the Reddies to 4-7 on the year and 2-1 in GAC play. Henderson will play its third match in three days tomorrow at 6 p.m., when it hosts No. 41 Oklahoma Baptist at the Ward Tennis Center.
