Reddies Softball Set for Showdown with No. 5 Southern Arkansas

LIVE STATS | LIVE VIDEO

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State will put its six-game Great American Conference winning streak on the line this weekend, when the Reddies travel to Magnolia, Arkansas, to battle with No. 5 Southern Arkansas in doubleheaders at 2 p.m. Sunday and 4 p.m. Monday.

In raising awareness for cancer research, Sunday will serve as this season's "Strikeout Cancer" game, as both teams will wear specialized pink and gray Strikeout Cancer jerseys during the doubleheader. Those game-worn jerseys will also be auctioned off through a silent auction, and admission taken for the games will be donated to brain and breast cancer research through the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

REDDIES REPORT
- The Reddies (24-13, 16-10) have been on a roll over the last two weeks and have won nine of their last 10 games, including the past six in a row.

- Henderson swept Ouachita Baptist in a doubleheader on Wednesday at Dee White Field, and held the Lady Tigers to just two runs on seven hits combined in the two games.

- As of Friday, the Reddies are in fifth place in the GAC standings, just one game back of reigning GAC Champion Harding.

- Freshmen Madie Green and Lindsey Williams continue to stand out for Henderson offensively. Green ranks seventh in the league with a .383 batting average, and is the Reddies' leader in runs (27), hits (44), home runs (7) and RBIs (26). The speedy Williams boasts a .381 average at the plate, with 32 hits and five stolen bases.

- Not to be out-done, seniors Bethany Allen and Alexia Lopez have also been tremendous for the Reddies. Allen has 43 hits, six doubles and 10 stolen bases this season, to go along with a .358 batting average. Lopez has been on an absolute tear in the past two weeks. The reigning GAC Player of the Week is 14-for-26 at the plate over her last 10 games (.538) with 13 RBIs.

- In the pitching circle, Sydney Bonner has been terrific for the Reddies, and holds a 9-6 record with a 3.46 ERA. She has won in five of her last six starts, and picked up her first save of the season on Wednesday in the 3-2 win over OBU. Freshman Mallory Brewer has also been solid for HSU in her first collegiate season. Brewer has a 3-0 record, with three saves and a 3.50 ERA.

- As a team, Henderson ranks fourth in the GAC in batting average (.304) and third in slugging (.456), OBP (.382) and ERA (3.22). The Reddies have also hit seven triples — the second-most in the conference.

SCOUTING SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
- The Lady Muleriders (34-4, 23-3) are the top team in the GAC and the No. 5 team in the nation with a little less than a month remaining in the regular season. They have won 24 of their last 26 games and are 14-1 at home this year.

- Offensively, SAU is truly a juggernaut, and ranks second in all of NCAA DII in home runs per game (1.97) and fourth in the country in team slugging percentage (.610).

- The Lady Muleriders are the GAC leaders in batting average (.343), OBP (.424), runs scored (276), RBIs (258) and home runs (75). SAU's astonishing 75 home runs this season are the most of any DII team in the country. Arkansas Tech, who is second in the GAC in home runs, has 38 this year. Four of the top six home run hitters in the conference play for the Lady Muleriders.

- SAU is led by senior Brooke Goad, who is the current NCAA DII leader in home runs with 21 this season. Goad leads the GAC in nearly every offensive category, including slugging (1.077), OBP (.563), runs scored (44), RBIs (46), total bases (112) and walks (31). This week, Goad tied the NCAA DII career-record for home runs, when she hit her 79th against Arkansas-Monticello.
