ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State will look to avenge a loss to Southern Nazarene earlier this month when the Reddies face the Crimson Storm at 5:30 p.m. Thursday night in the Duke Wells Center.
REDDIES REPORT
- The Reddies (13-5, 8-4) return home following a tough loss on the road at East Central. HSU out-rebounded the Crimson Storm 38-30 but committed 24 turnovers and shot just 10-for-31 in the second half after trailing by just a point at halftime.
- Henderson ran into an extremely hot-shooting Southern Nazarene team back on Jan. 5 in Oklahoma. SNU shot nearly 52 percent from the floor in that game and led by as many as 26 points in the second half. HSU rallied with seven points in the final minutes on the road but ultimately fell 85-74.
Blu Jones,
Pink Jones,
Karrington Whaley, and
Lani Snowden all scored in double figures despite the loss.
- HSU is third in the GAC as a team in scoring offense and averages 73 points per game in league play. The Reddies are also one of just two teams in the conference that holds their opponents to under 30 percent shooting from the 3-point line (28.3 percent).
- There are 19 players in the GAC who have scored 200 or more points this season and Henderson has three of them in the Jones twins and
Hailey Estes.
Pink Jones averages 15.1 points per game, while Estes averages 14.8 and Blu chips in 12.3.
- Estes is 10th in the league in scoring and second in rebounding (8.6 per game). She is one of just three players in the conference who are in the Top-10 in the GAC in both scoring and rebounding this season, along with Victoria Blankenship of Oklahoma Baptist and Katie Webb of Southeastern Oklahoma State.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN NAZARENE
- After a 3-8 start to its season, Southern Nazarene has rebounded in a dramatic way, winning seven of its last eight games to surge back to a 9-9 record and 8-4 mark in conference action. The Crimson Storm have lost just once in the entire month of January.
- As a team, SNU is not remarkably high-scoring and averages just 62.9 points per game in GAC play, but the Crimson Storm are one of the best defensive squads in the league. They lead the conference in field goal percentage defense (34.6 percent) and are second in scoring defense (62.1 points per game) this year.
- The Crimson Storm, so far this year, have been a very different team when they are on the road. SNU has a 6-1 record at home in Bethany, Oklahoma, but just a 3-6 mark when they play away from the Sawyer Center. All four of Southern Nazarene's GAC losses this season have come on the road.
