ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — No. 23 Henderson State (7-1) will look to stretch its winning streak to five games on Saturday when the Reddies travel to Monticello, Arkansas to collide with UAM (5-3) at 3 p.m.

TOP STORYLINES: SETTING THE SCENE
- Saturday's matchup is the 82nd meeting all-time between the two old AIC rivals. Henderson leads the series 48-31-2 and is 17-5 against the Weevils since 1996. UAM won last year's meeting 24-17 in Arkadelphia. The win snapped an eight-game winning-streak in the series for HSU and was UAM's first win over the Reddies since the formation of the GAC. HSU has not lost on the road at UAM since 2000.

- With three contests remaining in the regular season, the Reddies control their own destiny from a conference and national perspective. Wins over UAM, Southern Arkansas and Ouachita Baptist to end the year would secure HSU at least a share of its first fourth GAC title and would likely clinch the program's first berth in the NCAA DII Playoffs since 2015.

REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson has been the top offensive team in the GAC two-thirds of the way through the season. The Reddies lead the conference in scoring offense (35 points per game) and are second in the league in total offense (419.5 yards per game). The Reddies have scored 34 or more points in six games this year and have scored 40-plus in three of their last four contests.

- Quarterback Richard Stammetti is No. 21 in the country in passing yards with 1987 and 16th nationally with 19 touchdown passes. Stammetti passed John Lindgren for fourth all-time at HSU in passing yards against Southeastern Oklahoma and is now just 170 yards away from surpassing Roch Charpentier (4512 passing yards) for third-most in program history. He needs three more touchdown passes to become just the third player in Henderson history with 40 for a career.

- Receiver L'liott Curry ranks 20th in NCAA DII with 729 receiving yards and is one of 13 players in the country with 10 or more touchdown receptions. Curry's 10 receiving touchdowns this year is already tied for fourth-most ever in a single season for a Henderson State wide out. He is one of five players nationally this year with 50 receptions, 700 yards and 10 touchdowns.

- Nickel Mercardo Anderson earned his second GAC Defensive Player of the Week nod in three games from the league office on Monday. Anderson had two interceptions, one of which he returned for a score, against Southeastern. The senior from Ashdown, Arkansas is second in the GAC in tackles for loss (9.0) and third in interceptions (3).

- Running back Logan Moragne has scored a rushing touchdown in seven-straight games for Henderson State. The last player with a score on the ground in seven-consecutive games for the Reddies was Bernard Palmer, who found the endzone in 12-straight contests from the end of 2007 into the 2008 season. No player at HSU has scored a rushing touchdown in eight-straight games in a single year since 2002. Moragne leads the team with 585 yards on the ground and nine scores in 2019.

- The Reddies were slotted at No. 10 in Super Region 3 in the first NCAA Regional Rankings of the season on Monday. Henderson was one of three GAC schools in the first release of the rankings. The top seven teams in Super Region 3 at the end of the year will earn bids to the NCAA DII Playoffs. HSU has not made the national playoffs since 2015 -- the last time the Reddies won the Great American Conference title.

- Henderson is third in the GAC in scoring defense (15.9 points per game) and fourth in total defense (321.8 yards per game to opponents). The Reddies have held all eight of their opponents this season to 28 points or fewer and have only given up 20 or more three times. HSU has also been excellent on third down, where it is No. 2 in the conference and 25th nationally, allowing its opposition to convert on just 31 of 104 third down opportunities (29.8%).

- Hot starts to games have been key in 2019 for Henderson, who has out-scored its opponents 175-64 in first halves this season. The Reddies have out-scored their competition 280-127 in total this year and have allowed just 16 touchdowns while scoring a league-most 38. When Southeastern Oklahoma took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter last Saturday, it was the first time HSU had trailed in a game since Sept. 28 against Harding. During its four-game winning streak, Henderson has won by a combined score of 171-58. The Reddies have not had a five-game win streak in a single year since 2015.

- After not recording an interception until week five against Northwestern Oklahoma State, the Reddies have intercepted nine passes in the last four games and are now second in the GAC in picks this season. Anderson leads the team with three, Patrick Jones has two and four other players each have one. Henderson is second in the conference in turnover margin (+5) despite not forcing a turnover until the Harding game on Sept. 28.

SCOUTING ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO
- Arkansas-Monticello comes into Saturday's game 5-3 on the year and in GAC play. The Boll Weevils saw their three-game winning streak snapped last week by Oklahoma Baptist in a 34-32 defeat in Shawnee, Oklahoma. UAM is led by head coach Hud Jackson, who has a 34-62 record in nine years at the school.

- UAM boasts the No. 2 rushing offense in the GAC and averages 241.6 yards per game on the ground this season. The Weevils are led by running back Devontae Dean, who is fourth in the conference with 708 rushing yards on 146 carries, as well as freshman dual-threat quarterback Demilon Brown, who has run for 643 yards and five scores on just 69 carries -- an average of 9.3 yards per tote. Dean and Brown are the most potent one-two rushing punch of any duo in the GAC. In the passing game, receiver DeAndre Washington leads the team with 25 receptions for 394 yards and six touchdowns.

- Defensively, Monticello is fifth in the conference in both scoring defense (24.8 points per game allowed) and total defense (350.8 yards per game to opponents). UAM's catalyst on the defensive side of the ball is defensive end Brandon Young, who is second in the league with nine tackles for loss this season. Justin Legier has also had a strong year for the Weevils and leads all GAC linebackers with eight tackles for loss in 2019. Five of the top 12 players in the conference in tackles for loss play for UAM.

- The Weevils' 5-3 record is their best start to a season since 2008, when they finished 7-4 and 5-3 in the Gulf South Conference. UAM is also 4-0 at home this year, which is its best home record since 2013 when it nearly had a perfect home record before falling to No. 4 Henderson State in the home finale. Monticello's 6-6 record in 2018 was its first .500 or better season since 2008. The Weevils are in search of back-to-back seasons with a winning record for the first time since 1992-93.

LAST YEAR'S MEETING
- Down by 15 points with just over 10 minutes remaining, Henderson State staged a comeback that brought them within two yards of potentially tying the game, but the Reddies' final drive stalled at the goal line as they fell 24-17 to Arkansas-Monticello at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium and Ruggles Field.

- Trailing 24-9 with 10:24 remaining, the Reddies put together a nine-play, 47-yard scoring drive, capped by a 20-yard touchdown pass from Richard Stammetti to Chase Lodree on 4th-and-10. HSU then converted a trick play for the two-point conversion to make it 24-17.

- The Reddies got the ball back at their own 32-yard line with 3:01 to play and proceeded to march down the field, eventually moving all the way down to the UAM 2-yard line with one minute left. A procedure penalty on first-and-goal proved costly, however, as it backed Henderson up to the 7-yard line, where the Reddies then threw four-straight incomplete passes into the end zone to turn the ball over on downs and end the game. Stammetti ran for a touchdown and completed 30-of-62 passes for 360 yards with one score and two interceptions to lead HSU.
