ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – After making a statement in the opening weekend of Great American Conference play, the Reddies will take a brief break from their conference schedule when they host Paul Quinn College at 2 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.
REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson State (5-1, 2-0) became one of three GAC teams to start 2-0 in conference play after rolling over Arkansas Tech 97-61. The 36-point win was the largest margin of victory for a Reddies' team in Great American Conference history.
- Chris Parker finished with 26 points against Arkansas Tech which was one point off of his career high. Parker has now led the Reddies in scoring in all six games of the 2019-20 season and ranks sixth in the conference in points per game (18.8). The junior also ranks in the top-10 in the GAC in free throw percentage (89.3%), 3-point field goal percentage (48.6%), and 3-point field goals made (3.0 per game).
- Raekwon Rogers was extremely efficient against Arkansas Tech, finishing with 15 points and seven rebounds on 7-of-12 shooting in just 18 minutes of action. The Little Rock native is tied for first in the conference in blocks (1.3 per game), third in the conference in offensive rebounds, (3.7 per game), and fifth in the conference in total rebounds (8.3 per game).
- Newcomer Quawn Marshall is quickly making a name for himself in the GAC as one of the premier defenders in the league. Against Arkansas Tech, Marshall received the assignment to guard R.J. Glasper, who came into the game averaging 21 points and eight assists per game. Marshall limited Glasper to just three points on 1-of-8 shooting and forced him into seven turnovers. Marshall is leading the league with 2.7 steals per game, and has also been ultra-efficient offensively, shooting 60.7% from the field.
- HSU's defense continues to be one of the best in the league. The Reddies lead the league in field goal percentage defense (36.4% shooting for opponents) and are second in scoring defense (65.3 points per game allowed). Henderson State also tops the GAC in blocks per game (4.5) and steals per game (10.3).
- Henderson State has faced Paul Quinn on two occasions during the tenure of head coach Jimmy Elgas. The Reddies beat Paul Quinn 102-64 during the 2017-18 season and defeated the Tigers 103-77 in 2016-17.
SCOUTING PAUL QUINN
- Paul Quinn, who competes at the NAIA level, has played three Division I opponents in November, including Sam Houston State, Alcorn State, and Nicholls State. In those matchups, the Tigers were led by Mateo Escheik who averaged 23 points per game on a combined 23-for-49 shooting.
- Of the Division I schools that Paul Quinn has faced, the matchup against Nicholls State was their most competitive, as the Tigers fell 81-66. Escheik played every minute of that game and led all scorers with 29 points. Spencer McElway also added 14 points and eight rebounds on 7-for-10 shooting for Paul Quinn.
