ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Following its first defeat in conference play, Henderson State (6-2, 2-1) is looking to bounce back when the Reddies hit the road to take on Arkansas-Monticello at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
REDDIES REPORT
-  The Reddies fell to Harding 66-64 last Saturday as HSU was unable to tie or take the lead in the final seconds. Henderson State was once again led by senior guard Hailey Estes, who poured in 23 points on an ultra-efficient 9-of-13 shooting.
- Estes is playing some of the best basketball of her career and has scored 84 points over the last four games. That is the most points the Conway native has ever recorded in a four-game stretch during her time in Arkadelphia. Estes ranks in the Top-10 in the GAC in scoring (16.4 points per game), rebounding (9.4 per game), steals, (2.6 per game), 3-point percentage (42.9%) and 3-point field goals made (3.8 per game).
- Forward Karrington Whaley has continued to set the tone on both offense and defense for the Reddies' front court. The junior ranks Top-15 in the conference in scoring (13.1 points per game), sixth in rebounding (8.0 per game) and third in blocks (1.5 per game).
- While her teammates have helped take some of the scoring load, Pink Jones is having perhaps her most complete season in the Red and Gray, averaging 10.6 points per game while dishing out a league leading 6.5 assists per game and ranking fourth in steals (3.3 per game) and blocks (1.0 per game).
- Through the first portion of the schedule, Henderson State has been elite both offensively and defensively, leading the conference in scoring offense (79.5 points per game) while allowing opponents to shoot just 36.3% from the field. The Reddies rank second in all of NCAA DII in 3-point field goal defense, as opponents are making just 20.9% of long-distance attempts against HSU.
- Despite trailing 37-55 in the all-time series, Henderson State has won three of the last four meetings between the two teams. A victory on Saturday would be the third-straight win for the Reddies against UAM on the road.
HENDERSON STATE MILESTONE WATCH
- Pink Jones needs 10 assists to become just the second player in HSU history to reach 400 assists.
- Hailey Estes needs eight points to pass Jazmine Ellis for eight all-time on the Henderson State scoring list. She also needs just three steals to become the seventh player in HSU history with 150 in a career.
SCOUTING ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO
- Arkansas-Monticello, (7-1, 2-1) under the guidance of first year head coach Greg Long, is off to the program's best start since the 2002-2003 season.
- The Blossoms have turned over the majority of their roster, as seven of the players featured in the UAM rotation are newcomers. However, the offense is geared around a returning senior, Berniezha Tidwell, who is averaging 17.4 points per game, good for fourth in the conference. Tidwell also ranks second in the league in steals (3.4 per game) and assists (4.0 per game).
- UAM has the ability to throw multiple lineups at the opposition as the Blossoms have 11 players who average more than 14 minutes of court time. Seven of those players average five points or more.
- Suffocating defense has been one of the keys to Monticello's best start in years. UAM is allowing opponents to score just 48.6 points per game which is the lowest amount in the GAC by over 11 points.Â
