ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State traveled across the street to face off against rival Ouachita Baptist on Sunday afternoon and came away with its second win of the season by defeating the Lady Tigers 5-2.
The Reddies (2-0) took two of the three doubles matches to start the day and put one point on the board. The No. 2 doubles team of Lauren Miller and Mariah Bartlett defeated Haylee Cannon and Taylor Hansard, 6-4. The second win came from No. 3 doubles as Mikayla Braun and Cassie Berrier defeated Claire Phillips and Lindsay Gills, 6-1.
Up 1-0 heading into singles play, the Reddies needed to win three of the six singles matches to clinch the win. Henderson picked up its first singles point when Sydnee Parker defeated Kendra Dinsmore at the No. 2 spot in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. The Reddies would go on to win the last three singles matches as Bartlett defeated Hansard 7-5, 7-5 at No. 4, Braun defeated Gills 6-2, 7-5 at No. 5, and Berrier defeated Phillips 6-2, 7-5 at No. 6.
Henderson will return to action next Saturday, Feb. 16, when the Reddies travel to Russellville, Arkansas, to take on Arkansas Tech.
