ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State will look to keep its recent run of success against archrival Ouachita Baptist going on Thursday night when the Reddies host the Lady Tigers in the Battle of the Ravine at 5:30 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.
REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson (16-6, 11-5) is looking for its fourth-straight win on Thursday night. The Reddies have won 10 of their last 13 games and are currently in a tie for second place in the Great American Conference with six league games left to play. HSU's schedule down the stretch is challenging, as the Reddies will face four of the league's top teams in their final five games.
- As a team, the Reddies rank among the league's best in a number of categories. They are second in the GAC in scoring offense (71.4 points per game), third in scoring margin (+5.6), and fourth in scoring defense (65.8 points per game to opponents).
- HSU leads the conference in 3-point percentage defense and holds its opponents to just 27.9 percent shooting from beyond the arc in league games. Foes are just 68-for-244 from the 3-point line against the Reddies this season which ranks ninth in all of NCAA DII.
- Since
Jill Thomas' arrival in 2013-14, Henderson has dominated the series against cross-town rival Ouachita Baptist. The Reddies are 10-2 against the Lady Tigers under coach Thomas, have won the last four meetings in a row, and nine of the last 10 overall. In the first meeting with OBU this season, HSU set a new school-record with 18 made 3-pointers.
-
Pink Jones is eighth in the GAC in scoring (15.4 points per game) and second in assists per game (4.6).
Karrington Whaley leads the league in field goal percentage in conference games this season (60.6 percent).
Hailey Estes is third in rebounding (8.0 per game) and has made 53 3-pointers this season - the second-most of any player in the GAC.
SCOUTING OUACHITA BAPTIST
- Ouachita Baptist has struggled so far this season and enters Thursday night's contest 6-16 on the year and 4-12 in GAC play. The Lady Tigers have lost four straight games and have dropped 12 of their last 14.
- Senior guard Alivia Huell leads OBU in both scoring (13 points per game) and rebounding (7.5 per game). Huell has scored in double figures in 18 of the Lady Tigers' 22 games this season. She had 14 points and eight rebounds in the first meeting with HSU. Junior guard Madison Brittain averages 12.7 points per game and has hit 43 3-pointers this year.
- OBU, as a team, is 11th in the GAC scoring offense (61.4 points per game), last in scoring defense (74 points per game to opponents), and 11th in scoring margin (-12.6). The Lady Tigers are also last in the conference in rebounding margin (-7.2). OBU does, however, move the ball well offensively, where it ranks fifth in the league in assists per game (13.3).
