ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State won two of the three doubles matches to take an early lead and Sydnee Parker won her second straight contest at No. 1 singles, but the Reddies fell to North Central Texas College 4-3 on Friday evening at the Ward Tennis Center on the campus of Ouachita Baptist.
In doubles play, Lorish Puluspene and Parker defeated Birthe Nulens and Katerina Matusikova 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, while Mariah Bartlett and Lauren Miller defeated Lisa Guitton and Laura Rincon-Arias 6-4 at No. 2 doubles. The two doubles victories gave the Reddies a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
The Reddies quickly extended the lead to 2-0 after Parker defeated Nulens in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Despite the early lead, the Reddies would only add one more point to the board as Bartlett would also win in straight-sets 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. NCTC took the remaining four singles matches to rally for a win in the late evening affair.
The loss drops the Reddies to 2-3 on the season. Henderson will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 23, when it faces Angelo State at 3 p.m.
