ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State returned to action on Thursday morning and picked up its third win of the season with a 7-0 victory over McKendree.
The Reddies got out to a quick start in doubles play, sweeping the three matches to take a 1-0 lead. Sydnee Parker and Lorish Puluspene defeated Steffany Bermudez and Hailey Waquespack 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Lauren Miller and Mariah Bartlett won 6-2 at No. 2, and Mikayla Braun and Cassie Berrier won by default at No. 3.
Holding an early 1-0 advantage, the Reddies did not slow down in singles play, as Parker picked up her fourth win of the season at No. 1 singles, defeating Steffany Bermudez 3-6, 6-4, (13-11). Parker rallied from an 8-2 deficit in the tiebreaker to earn the win.
Puluspene extended the Reddies' lead to 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Nicole Uzcategui at No. 2 singles. With a 3-0 lead, the Reddies needed one more point to secure the victory and Miller came through when she defeated Jessica Molinari 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 to clinch it for HSU.
With victory in hand, the Reddies went on to take the final three singles matches. Bartlett defeated Hailey Waquespack 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles and Braun defeated Megan Molinari 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5. Berrier won by default at No. 6.
The win improves the Reddies to 3-5 on the season. Henderson will return to action on Friday, March 29 at 2 p.m. as it opens Great American Conference play against Harding at the Bettye Wallace Tennis Center.
