Henderson Preps for Defending GAC Champion SWOSU

WEATHERFORD Okla. – The Reddies will look to sweep their Sooner State road trip Saturday when they take on defending GAC champion and NCAA Division II runners-up Southwestern Oklahoma State at 1 p.m.

REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson State (10-3, 5-2) stayed perfect in 2020 on Thursday evening with a hard-fought victory over the Northwestern Oklahoma State Lady Rangers, 73-64. The win was the first for HSU in Alva, Oklahoma since the 2015-16 season.

- With nine rebounds on Thursday, Hailey Estes broke HSU's all-time rebounding record, surpassing Dulincia Keener's 800 rebounds throughout her career. Estes has now pulled down 804 career rebounds during her time as a Reddie.

- For the second game in a row and for the third time this season, sophomore guard Maci Mains led the Reddies in scoring off of the bench. Mains finished with 17 points on 5-of-12 shooting including four 3-pointers in just 22 minutes. Mains also took excellent care of the basketball against NWOSU's zone defense and has just one turnover in her last 59 minutes of game action.

- Lani Snowden continued her torrid shooting streak on Thursday night, knocking down five of her right 3-point attempts. Snowden is now 13-for-23 from long distance over the last five games and is shooting a league leading 51.7% from behind the arc this season.

- Against Northwestern, Karrington Whaley put together an impressive defensive performance against one of the most talented post players in the GAC, Bailey Brown. Brown came into the contest averaging 16.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per game which were both good for fifth in the GAC. Against the Reddies, however, Whaley held Brown to a season-low five points on 1-of-8 shooting.

SCOUTING SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE
- Despite losing two of the most accomplished players in GAC history in Hailey Tucker and Hayden Priddy, Southwestern Oklahoma State (10-3, 5-2) is still one of the conference favorites in 2019-20.

- The Lady Dawgs can attack from multiple angles as they feature five players that average nine points or more. SWOSU's leading scorer is Maddie Sperle who is also perhaps the most improved player in the conference. The junior has almost tripled her scoring output from last season and averages 14.3 points per game for SWOSU.

- Southwestern also returns multiple key cogs from its historic 2018-19 season when they where seconds away from becoming National Champions. Among those returning from that squad are senior Tyra Aska and junior Bethany Franks. Aska is one of the most complete players in the league and averages 10.5 points and 6.2 boards, while Franks is making a case for defensive player of the year while averaging 4.3 steals per game.

- SWOSU's offensive stats can be somewhat misleading due to their pace of play. Although the Lady Dawgs rank third in the conference in scoring offense at 72.6 points per game, they are near the bottom of the league in field goal percentage (36.6% from the floor as a team).
