ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State got three wins at singles and swept doubles play on Saturday in its spring opener to defeat UT-Tyler 4-3 at the Bettye Wallace Tennis Center.
The Reddies won all three doubles contests to begin the match. Mulan Kamoe and Franny Nyarko claimed a 6-3 victory at No.1, Georjemah Row and Vinda Teally picked up a 6-4 win at No. 2 and Erica Jaggernauth and Tirzah Bailey outlasted UT-Tyler's Chloe Dix and Dnyanada Patil 7-5 at No. 3 to earn the sweep and the point for HSU.
In singles play, it was the No. 2-4 spots that came up big for Henderson. Row and Nyarko made quick work in straight-sets at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, while Jaggernauth took care of Dix 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 to clinch the match win for the Reddies. Teally competed in perhaps the most dramatic contest of the afternoon and fell in a hard-fought three-set affair 3-6, 6-3, 8-10.
The win on Saturday improves HSU to 2-0 on the year. The Reddies will look for their third-straight win on Friday, Feb. 7 when they face Arkansas Tech at 1 p.m. in Arkadelphia.
