ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State won four singles matches and took the doubles point on Thursday afternoon to defeat the No. 10 JUCO program in the country, North Central Texas College, 5-2 at the Ward Tennis Center.
The Reddies got off to an excellent start in doubles play. The No. 2 team of
Georjemah Row and
Vinda Teally cruised to a 6-0 win and was followed by
Mulan Kamoe and
Franny Nyarko's fifth victory of the season at No. 1 to secure the doubles point and 1-0 advantage in the match.
HSU went up 3-0 thanks to a quick singles victory from Nyarko at No. 3 (6-1, 6-2) and a hard-fought, three-set win from Row at No. 2 (6-3, 4-6, 6-1). NCTC took home a win at No. 4 singles to make it 3-1, but Kamoe sealed things up for the Reddies soon after with a 7-5, 7-6 win at No. 1 — her fifth individual win of the season in the top spot for Henderson.
The victory improves HSU to 4-2 on the year and is the program's first ever win over NCTC. The Reddies return to the court tomorrow at 6 p.m. when they host Delta State at the Bettye Wallace Tennis center.
