ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The Reddies will celebrate the careers of six outstanding seniors on Saturday afternoon as HSU plays its final home game of the 2019-2020 season against the Northwestern Oklahoma State Lady Rangers at 1 p.m.Â
REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson State (17-8, 12-7) mounted a furious comeback on Thursday, scoring seven unanswered points in 35 seconds to take a 63-61 lead over Southwestern Oklahoma State with 4.7 seconds remaining. Unfortunately, the Reddies could not hang on and fell 77-70 in overtime. The loss dropped HSU into a three-way tie for fourth-place with Arkansas Tech and Southern Nazarene with three regular season games left to play.Â
-Â The Reddies held the Lady Bulldogs to their lowest shooting percentage in the last eight games between the two teams, but HSU could not get the lid off the basket themselves. The Reddies were just 27-for-82 as a team (32.9%) and just 7-of-33 from 3-point range (21.2%).
- Hailey Estes led the Reddies with 16 points and six steals while grabbing 13 rebounds to record her fourth-straight double-double and fifth in her last six games. The senior has notched 10 or more rebounds in six-straight games – tying the longest streak of her career.Â
- Lexis Weber's rebounding totals were even more impressive, as the senior pulled down a career high 18 rebounds, eight of them offensive. Weber had 11 boards by halftime. Â
- Despite the loss, Henderson State still ranks second in the GAC in field goal percentage defense (37.8%) and 3-point percentage defense (29.4%) heading into Saturday.
HENDERSON STATE MILESTONE WATCH
- With 13 rebounds on Thursday, Hailey Estes passed Hailey Tucker for third-place on the GAC's all-time rebounding list.
- Lani Snowden needs three 3-point field goals to pass Bridget Brown for eighth all-time at Henderson in made 3-pointers.
- Karrington Whaley needs two blocks to become the second player in HSU History to record 100 rejections in a career.
SCOUTING Northwestern Oklahoma State
- Northwestern Oklahoma State (12-13, 8-11) will arrive to the Duke Wells Center on Saturday as a desperate team. At 8-11, the Lady Rangers are currently ninth in the GAC, and as of now, on the outside looking into the GAC Postseason Tournament.Â
- NWOSU is currently two games behind Southern Arkansas, who is 10-9 in the GAC and holds the eighth and final seed with three regular season games to go. If the Lady Rangers fall to Henderson State, and Southern Arkansas beats its Saturday opponent East Central, Northwestern will be eliminated from GAC postseason contention.
- The Lady Rangers are led by the dynamic combination of Kalea King and Bailey Brown. King, a guard, averages 14.1 points per game for Northwestern and rebounds extremely well for her position, pulling down 5.3 rebounds per contest.Â
- Brown is a versatile post player who has the ability to step out and knock down the 3-point shot, making 10 3-point field goals on the season. The junior is also one of the best free throw shooters in the league with an 83% mark from the free throw line.Â
- The matchup between NWOSU's Brown and Henderson's Whaley will be one to watch. Whaley won that individual battle in the first meeting between these two teams back on Jan. 9 when she held Brown to just five points on 1-of-9 shooting as the Reddies prevailed 73-64.Â
