ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — In a back-and-forth affair, Henderson State secured a point with two wins in doubles and then won three of the six singles contests on Saturday to outlast Mississippi College 4-3 at the Bettye Wallace Tennis Center.
The Reddies got off to a strong start in doubles play. The No. 3 team of
Lauren Miller and
Tirzah Bailey coasted to the first win, 6-0, and after MC tied it up 1-1 with a victory at No. 2, HSU's No. 1 pair of
Mulan Kamoe and
Franny Nyarko earned a hard-fought 6-4 win to give Henderson a 1-0 lead in the match.
Mississippi College responded to begin singles and claimed wins at No. 2 and No. 4 to jump in front 2-1. Nyarko made it two wins on the day for herself and tied the match 2-2 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 spot and Kamoe picked up her fourth win of the week at No. 1, 6-3, 6-4, to help the Reddies go back in front 3-2.
Needing just one more singles match to win the contest as a team,
Vinda Teally came through for HSU, as she wore down MC's Kennedy Rogers 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 to clinch the sixth victory of the year, and fifth of the last seven days, for the Reddies.
Henderson (6-3) returns to the court on Friday when it travels to Searcy, Arkansas to face Harding in non-conference action.
