ADA, Okla. — Henderson State's women's basketball team will try to end the regular season on a high note when it visits East Central on Saturday at 1 p.m.
REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson State (18-9, 13-8) fell victim to multiple late quarter runs on Thursday as the Savage Storm outscored the Reddies 11-2 in the last four minutes of the first quarter before ending the second period on a 15-run to lead 55-39 at halftime. HSU cut Southeastern's lead to seven, 65-58 with three minutes to go in the third, but the Storm ended the quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 15-point lead into the fourth and pull away.
-  Coming into the game, the Reddies ranked in the top two of the GAC in both field goal percentage defense and three-point percentage defense but could not contain Southeastern's offensive attack. Following a slow start, SOSU shot 61.5% in the last three quarters and put up the highest point total of the season for any HSU opponent.
- Sophomore Maci Mains was a bright spot for a Henderson offense that shot just 36.4% from the field. Mains scored in double figures for the 15th time in 16 games and set a new career-high with 22 points on 6-of-11 shooting including three makes from behind the arc.
- Karrington Whaley had the lone double-double for either team as she finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds in 28 minutes of action. The double-double was the ninth of the season for the HSU junior.
- The recent history between the Reddies and the Tigers has been extremely even, with each team winning five of the last 10 contests.
HENDERSON STATE MILESTONE WATCH
- Pink Jones needs 14 points to pass Kathy Comeaux for second on HSU's all-time scoring list.
- Lani Snowden needs three 3-point field goals to pass Mandy Hill for seventh on Henderson's 3-point field goal list.
SCOUTING EAST CENTRAL
- East Central (10-17, 8-13) got off to an extremely slow start this season, but have developed into one of the conference's hottest teams in the last month of regular season action. The Tigers have won five games in a row and six of their last seven, including a 79-69 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State and a 77-65 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State – two of the three teams tied for first place in the GAC.
- East Central does not have an extremely deep rotation as the Tigers assign 30 minutes per game to five players, but ECU does have a strong core led by junior Kendall Schulte, who averages 12.5 points per game. Schulte comes into Saturday playing some of the best basketball of her career, averaging 18.5 points on 57.1% shooting in her last 4 outings.
- Schulte forms a solid duo with her teammate Sam Schwab, who leads ECU in the front court with 12.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. Schwab was extremely effective in the first meeting between HSU and ECU, scoring 13 points and pulling down 15 rebounds. However, that effort was not enough as Henderson State pulled away to win 76-66.Â
