ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State returns to Arkadelphia for its conference home opener this weekend after 12-straight games away from Dee White Field. The Reddies will welcome in Southern Nazarene, who is off to its best start since joining the GAC. HSU and SNU are scheduled for two doubleheaders starting at 3 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. on Saturday.
REDDIES REPORT
- Several players in the HSU lineup had breakout weekends against Oklahoma Baptist. Alyssa Dixon led the team in hits, going 7-for-14 with five runs scored and now leads the team in batting average at .333.Â
- Abbie Moore and Kailey Reese also had six hits a piece while combining to drive in nine runs. Both Moore and Reese also hit home runs over the weekend as Moore went deep in the third game of the series while Reese went deep in the fourth and final contest. For Moore, the deep fly was her third of the season while Reese notched her first. Ashlyn Taylor also blasted a big fly against OKBU, delivering a three-run shot for the Reddies.
- The Reddies were boosted by freshmen Taylor Sledd and Morgan Reeve in Saturday's doubleheader, as the two newcomers combined to smack four home runs and 10 RBIs over the course of two games. Sledd is now tied for the team lead in home runs (3) and RBIs (12) despite starting only 12 of HSU's 20 games.Â
- The recent history between Henderson State and Southern Nazarene is dead even, with each team taking 14 of the last 28 matchups.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN NAZARENE
- Southern Nazarene (15-5, 8-0) has finished between eighth and fifth in the GAC for the past five years, but the Crimson Storm are looking to take the next step this season after an 8-0 start to conference play.Â
- SNU stayed undefeated in GAC action last weekend and is one of two undefeated teams in league action after a four-game domination of Ouachita Baptist in which they outscored the Lady Tigers 32-4.Â
- Southern Nazarene's third baseman Caitlyn Curlee won GAC Player of the Week after her weekend versus Ouachita when she combined to go 8-for-11 with seven RBIs, six runs, two home runs, two doubles, and three walks.Â
- The Crimson Storm have hit the cover off the ball through the first two weeks of conference play and are second in the league, only behind national powerhouse Southern Arkansas in batting average (.330), slugging percentage (.507), on-base percentage (.415), runs (140), RBIs (125), total bases (266), and walks (76).
- Although Curlee was awarded Player of the Week honors, SNU's two top hitters through the 2020 season have been Peyton Robinson and Hailie Fellers. Robinson hits for contact and is batting an amazing .491 while notching a .538 on-base percentage racking up 19 stolen bases. Fellers also hits for an impressive .431 average but has a little more pop in her bat, registering three home runs and 17 RBIs so far this season.Â
