***NO FANS PER GAC POLICY***
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — After falling on the road to Harding on Thursday, Henderson State aims to bounce back in the friendly confines of home tomorrow afternoon when it hosts Arkansas-Monticello at 4 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.
REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson (1-2) ran into another hot-shooting opponent on Thursday night in Searcy, as Harding connected on 52% of its shots in the second half and held off the Reddies late, 89-79. In its two losses this year, HSU's opponents have shot 50% and 48% from the floor and hit a combined 23 3-pointers; 10 more than the Reddies made in those contests.
- The Reddies are currently sixth in the GAC in both scoring offense (75.3 points per game) and scoring defense (72 points allowed per game). HSU is third in the league in field goal percentage defense (40.1% shooting for opponents) but has been hurt from beyond the 3-point line, where its opponents are shooting 38.7% from behind the arc.
- Quawn Marshall leads the Reddies in scoring with an average of 13 points per game this year and leads the conference in assists with 19 total and an average of 6.3 per contest. Both Jeremiah Toney and Raekwon Rogers are Top-5 in the GAC in rebounding with 9.7 and 9.3 rebounds per game, respectively.Â
- HSU is looking to avoid back-to-back home losses for the first time in nearly two full years on Saturday. The last time the Reddies dropped back-to-back home games was in February of 2018 when they fell to UAM and Ouachita to end the season. Henderson was 13-1 at home last year but fell in its home and season opener last week to SAU.
- Saturday is the 165th meeting between Henderson and UAM all-time. HSU leads the series 95-69 and also came away with a win in the 164th meeting last February at the GAC Tournament. Trailing by eight points with 1:14 remaining, the Reddies put together a miraculous rally to send the game into overtime, where they went on to win 89-83. The improbable victory sparked HSU's eventual tournament title run.
SCOUTING ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO
- Arkansas-Monticello comes to Arkadelphia on Saturday 2-1 on the year and 1-1 in GAC play. The Boll Weevils won their league opener against Arkansas Tech 78-65 but fell on the road at Southern Arkansas 71-67. UAM is led by head coach Kyle Tolin who has won 94 games in Monticello in seven seasons.
- The Weevils are led by newcomer Miles Daniels, a transfer from Jackson State, who is averaging 16 points per game on 51.7% shooting from the floor. Entering Saturday, Daniels is the most dangerous 3-point shooter in the GAC and is connecting on a ridiculous 59.1% of his looks from beyond the arc.
- UAM has presented a challenge for Henderson in the last several seasons. Prior to the Reddies' win in the 2020 GAC Tournament, the Weevils had won eight-straight over HSU and nine of the last 10 meetings overall. UAM was the only team to beat Henderson in the Duke Wells Center last season when it claimed a narrow 81-80 victory in February.
