Reddies Eye Bounce Back in Rematch Against SAU

GAME COVERAGE LINKS: Live Video | Live Radio | Live Stats

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – One day removed from its overtime loss to Harding, Henderson State will look to put that memory in the past with a win at the Southern Arkansas Muleriders in a non-conference game Monday, Feb. 1. The Reddies' attempt at a return to the win column begins at 6 p.m. inside the W.T Watson Athletic Center.

REDDIES REPORT
- This matchup will mark the second meeting of the season between HSU (1-3) and the Muleriders (1-4). To open the season, SAU came to the Duke Wells Center where it was met with a career night from Maci Mains. The junior's 35 points helped Henderson begin its 2021 season with a 93-84 win while the Reddies as a team shot 49.3% from the field.

- Some key players were absent in the first contest for Henderson State. HSU was without Ashley Farrar and Sonni Martin. Farrar is leading the Reddies in scoring with 22.3 points per game. Martin is shooting a team-high 55.6% (min. six (6) attempts) from beyond-the-arc.

- Henderson State's health throughout the season has no doubt been an obstacle as the Reddies were again without a starter in their last game against Harding. Leading-rebounder Karrington Whaley (9.7) was nowhere to be found on the court that day. Tamia Templeton picked up the slack in the absence of the star forward, having her career game against the Lady Bisons with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Templeton is averaging 10.0 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game and is shooting a team-high 88.9 free-throw percentage (min. five (5) attempts).

- HSU's opponents' ability to break through its defense has been the Reddies' Achilles heel. In both of its road games this season, Henderson has allowed an average of 54 points per game in the paint while itself averaging only 25 painted-area points.

SCOUTING SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
- Henderson State was not the only team to be without key contributors in the first meeting. The Muleriders were without Seniors Kisi Young and Maggie Evans. Young leads SAU with 6.5 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists per game while being second on the team in scoring with 12.5 points per game. Evans brings the defensive prowess, averaging 1.8 steals per game, including four in her last game against Arkansas Tech, and is second on the team with 0.5 blocks per game.

- Through five games, Southern Arkansas' offense is fueled by sophomore Diamond Morris with 13.4 points per game. Morris also leads her squad in free throw attempts with 21 on the season as she's shooting 71.4% from the charity stripe.

- The Muleriders' lone win this season came inside its home gym. Back on Jan. 11, Southern Arkansas defeated Arkansas-Monticello 72-66. Young led all scorers with 19 points while also forcing the Blossoms into 28 turnovers.
