HSU Faces UAFS in Final Road Non-Conference Game

GAME COVERAGE LINKS

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – In its final non-conference road trip of the season, Henderson State battles in-state opponent University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Wednesday, Nov. 24 at 5:30 p.m. This will be the first meeting between the two Arkansas schools since 2017.

REDDIES REPORT
Henderson is coming off its best shooting performance of the season, knocking down 29-of-61 shots from the field (47.5%), including 12-27 from three (44.4%). The Reddies needed every bit of it as Texas-Tyler was also shooting lights out, connecting on 28 of their 61 attempts (45.9%) as HSU narrowly escaped UT-Tyler, 73-65.

In Henderson's three wins this season, it has shot north of 42% from the field and 35% or better from the perimeter. Leading that charge is leading-scorer Ashley Farrar, who is shooting 41.4% from the field, and Gracie Raby, who is connecting on 48.6% of her attempts. Lani Snowden, who is second on the team in three-pointer attempts, is registering at a 56.3% clip from deep.

Four players on the Reddies' squad are averaging double-digit scoring (Farrar, Snowden, Raby and Jadah Pickens), which is the most players of anyone in the Great American Conference through four games. Southern Arkansas has six players averaging double-digits through three games and Arkansas Tech has five players in double-figures in only two games.

In seven career meetings, Arkansas-Fort Smith leads the all-time series, 5-2, including winning the last four matchups. Henderson's two wins came back in 2013, both of which were in Arkadelphia. The Reddies have never beaten UAFS in Fort Smith.

SCOUTING ARKANSAS-FORT SMITH
The Lady Lions of Arkansas-Fort Smith, who are led by first-year head coach Ryan McAdams, opened their regular season with a 65-54 win over Arkansas-Monticello before dropping two in a row to Central Oklahoma, 78-58, and most recently East Central, 89-40.

Junior guard Ashanti Eden is who gets the Lady Lions' offense moving as she is seeing over 30 minutes of playing time, averaging 6.7 points per game and a team-high 3.3 assists per game. In UAFS' lone win on the season, Eden was responsible for nine points and four assists while senior guard Dachelle Terry saw a season-high 10 points in the victory alongside Eden.

What To Watch For…
-Farrar has scored 70 points through four games to open the 2021-22 season. In head coach Jill Thomas' nine years at HSU, Henderson State Hall of Honor inductee Aungelique Sledge holds the record for the most points scored through the first five games of a season with 88 in 2013-14. Farrar will need 19 points on Wednesday – a feat she has already surpassed twice this season – to break Sledge's record.

-Karrington Whaley has 622 career rebounds as she is currently tied with Angela Brown for sixth all-time. One more rebound on Wednesday will move her solely into sixth place. The fifth-year senior needs 70 more to move into the Top-5.
